The Triangle Choke: Antwain Britt Interview

An interview with Antwain “The Juggernaut” Britt

Antwain Britt holds a career record of 9-3 and has bounced back from his injury on The Ultimate Fighter Season 8. Britt, a star on the rise, is now a well conditioned athlete who recently signed with Strikeforce to fight in the Light Heavyweight division.

SD- You had a setback in your last bout against Rodney Wallace. Speak about what happened.

AB- First of all that was an 8 man tournament (each fight held on the same night). I had never done one before. I had two tough fights before that. I fought Carmelo Marrero who is a UFC vet. That was a war in itself (Britt won via UD). Then I had Richard Hale who is a tough veteran as well. I was really beat up going into the Wallace fight. I hyper-extended my arm and my leg was jacked up a little bit. I’m not taking anything from Rodney but he definitely didn’t get the best Antwain Britt. Again not taking anything away from him, he is a great fighter and did what he had to do to win the tournament. It was neat to do but I will probably never do the tournament thing again

SD- You recently signed with Strikeforce. Talk about this opportunity.

AB- The way the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight division looks I think I can go in there and make an immediate impact.

SD- Do you know when your 1st fight in Strikeforce will be?

AB- Nothing is confirmed as of yet but we are looking at the November 6th card. I’m training hard every day. I’ll be ready for whenever they call me.

SD- You mentioned the state of the division. What are your thoughts on the champion, Gegard Mousasi?

AB- I’ve actually watched him for a while now. He is a really well-rounded fighter. He puts his hands together really well and is very good on the ground. I think he is a good representative for the 205lb division in Strikeforce. It would be great to fight him. I know I have a couple of guys I have to beat up 1st before I get to that point. I think I can be very competitive against a fighter like that. With the clash of styles, I think it would be a very interesting matchup.

SD- Speak about the opportunity to fight in Strikeforce in terms of notoriety and recognition.

AB- The fans know that Strikeforce is one of the big boys in MMA. I’m really thankful for the opportunity to perform on a stage like that. They have a lot of big names coming up and are taking steps to be a real powerhouse in MMA. I’m going to take every opportunity to bring exposure to myself and my gym. I’m going to do everything I have done in the past on an independent level; now me and the organization can benefit from what I’m doing in the cage.

SD- Thanks as always Antwain. We wish you the best.

AB- Thanks. I want to thank my sponsors Royal Klick and thegreengi.com. I also opened my own gym. You can read more about it at www.mmasuffolk.com - Check it out. It’s going to be a great spot for every day martial artists and those who strive to be competitive.
