Georgi Karakhanyan vs. Bao QuachTeam Oyama’s Bao Quach (17-9-1) and Millennia MMA’s Georgi Karakhanyan (12-1-1) will be two of season 2’s featherweight quarterfinalists and fight at Bellator FC 13 on Fox Sports Net. Quach’s last fight was in September submitting Aaron Miller at a Respect in the Cage show. Karakhanyan fought in May defeating Albert Rios via unanimous decision at a Call to Arms event. Quach, 30, debuted in 2001 and after beginning his career with a 6-8-1 record, rattled off nine consecutive victories. He did, however, drop a decision against LC Davis at Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” show in January 2009. Since that loss, he has put together back-to-back victories, most recently in September against Aaron Miller. Karakhanyan, 24, debuted in 2006 going on to fight for King of the Cage, Gladiator Challenge, and Call to Arms promotions, among other organizations. His last loss came in February 2008 since then; he has won eight straight bouts earning submissions five times. His last fight came against Albert Rios in May earning a decision victory at the Call to Arms show. Prediction – Quach over Karakhanyan via decision
Joe Warren vs. Eric MarriotSurprising featherweight Joe Warren (2-1) will meet Eric Marriot (17-3) in the season 2 Bellator featherweight quarterfinal round. Warren suffered his first career loss in October at DREAM 11 after submitting to DREAM champ, Bibiano Fernandes. Marriot last fought in December defeating Sean Wilson via submission at TFC 15. Warren, 33, is a former University of Michigan wrestler who eventually made the transition into MMA one year ago in the DREAM featherweight grand prix. At his DREAM 7 debut last March, Warren used a TKO to finish Chase Beebe. He then pulled off one of the year’s biggest upsets with his split decision victory over Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto two months later at DREAM 9. Warren dropped his next fight at DREAM 11 after submitting to champion Fernandes. Marriot is a Team Grindhouse fighter who debuted in early 2008. He has fought for a wide variety of promotions including Iron Ring, M-1 Global, and Titan FC among others. His current nine-fight win streak includes four submissions dating back to his last loss in February 2009. He recorded his ninth straight victory in December at Titan FC with a submission victory over Sean Wilson. Prediction – Warren over Marriot via submission
Janne Tulirinta vs. Carey VanierFinland-native, Janne Tulirinta (12-3) is matched up against Jackson’s Submission Fighting’s Carey Vanier (7-2) in the lightweight quarterfinal at Bellator 13. Tulirinta was in action in July earning a 1 st round TKO over Ivan Ivanov at M-1 Challenge 17 event. Vanier fought in October at the Baltimore, Maryland-based Shogun Fights where he defeated Paul Mann via TKO. Tulirinta debuted in 2003 at Shooto Finland and later fought in ZST, GCM Cage Force, and Fight Festival. He was 6-2 prior to appearing on the M-1 Challenge in April 2008. He went on to fight seven times in M-1 Challenge over a fifteen month span picking up wins in six of those bouts. He won his last four including his last fight in July against Ivanov. Vanier, 28, made his debut in September 2006 losing two of his first three bouts. He recovered after the 1-2 start by winning six consecutive bouts. His most recent victory was in impressive fashion, a TKO finish over Paul Mann at Shogun Fights in October. Prediction – Vanier over Tulirinta via decision
Roger Huerta vs. Chad HintonFormer UFC lightweight, Roger Huerta (21-3-1), will make his Bellator debut against Ohio-native, Chad Hinton (6-0), at the BFC season 2 lightweight quarterfinal. Huerta will be fighting for the first time since leaving the UFC after a loss to Gray Maynard at UFC Fight Night 19 in September 2009. Hinton used his power to KO Justin Moore at Intimidation Cage Fighting in October. Huerta, 26, made his professional debut in 2003 for the Extreme Challenge organization. He also fought for Freestyle FC and the IFC promotions before signing with the UFC in 2006. He was on an 11-fight win streak when he dropped his last two octagon bouts. Huerta finished his UFC career with a 6-2 mark earning victories over fighters such as Jason Dent, Leonard Garcia, Doug Evans, and Clay Guida. Hinton, 38, has been fighting since 2007 for the MMA Big Show and Intimidation Cage Fighting in Ohio. He has finished four of his six opponents while winning two titles in mid-level promotions. His last win in October was fairly easy; he will take the next step in his career against Huerta. Prediction – Huerta over Hinton via TKO
