Pat Curran vs. Toby ImadaToby Imada (25-12) continues his late career resurgence by advancing to the BFC season 2 lightweight final for the second year in a row against 22 year-old Pat Curran (11-3). Curran, 22, is an Illinois-based fighter who trains at his family’s Curran Martial Arts Academy. He made his debut in 2008 and won nine of twelve over the next two years fighting with organizations like the XFO and Adrenaline MMA. He was picked to participate in the season 2 lightweight tourney beginning this April. He defeated Mike Ricci in the opening round at BFC 14 and then upset Roger Huerta in the semifinal round at BFC 17. Imada, 32, is a California-born and based fighter who trains out of the Dawg Pound MMA. He made his debut in 1998 and fought for a wide variety of organizations including the WEC early on in his career. As his career grew older, he improved and has won 13 of his last 15 including four of five for Bellator FC. He made it to the season 1 lightweight final but was submitted by current champ Eddie Alvarez at BFC 12. He returned this season and submitted James Krause and Carey Vanier to get back in the final tournament bout again. Prediction – Imada submission
Megumi Fujii vs. Sarah SchneiderJapan’s top female fighter, Megumi Fujii (19-0) is set to fight in her most high-profile fight to date when she takes on Missouri-based Sarah Schneider (4-4) in a BFC 21 women’s 120-pound non-tourney bout. Fujii, 36, is a solid all around fighter who has 16 submissions in 19 career bouts. She trains in Tokyo at Abe Ani Combat Club where she fine tunes her black belt in jiu-jitsu and Judo. She debuted in 2004 and has fought for Smackgirl, Shooto, Bodog Fight, and others over the last five years. This will be her first fight since her November 2009 armbar victory over Tomomi Sunaba in the Shooto organization. Schneider, 29, is a American Jiu-Jitsu fighter who made her debut in late 2007. She started her career with three consecutive victories including a submission victory over Kaitlin Young in her second career bout. She has dropped four of her last five, although they all came against notable females including Tonya Evinger, Jennifer Tate, Sarah Kaufman, and Adrienne Jenkins. Her most recent bout was at FCF 39 in late January losing to Jenkins via submission. Prediction – Fujii submission
Steve Banks vs. Mike HayesHeavyweights Steve Banks (4-2) and Mike Hayes (11-3-1) will both be featured on the BFC 21 main card in a non-tournament bout. Banks made his debut in August 2008 and fought for several different organizations such as Battle at the Sun, Carolina Crown, MMA Big Show, BGONA, and VTC. He won his first three career bouts all by TKO before dropping his next two. The 262-pound giant did rebound from his consecutive losses in his most recent bout by knocking out William Mattos in March. Hayes is a Washington-based fighter who trains with the White Buffalo Warriors team. He made his pro debut in 2007 and fought for several organizations like Cage Sport, Palace FC, Rumble on the Ridge, and even fought once for Strikeforce.
