Bellator 38 Recap
The home of the World Series of Poker became the home of some of Bellator’s finest finishes as Harrah’s Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada hosted Bellator 38 on Friday. It was the fourth event in Bellator’s fourth season. Las Vegas saw light heavyweight action and a few fighters making there way to the semifinals of the tournament. Action started off with Chris Davis taking on Christian M’Pumbu. Davis, a former Marine came out striking well with the much bigger, M’Pumbu. The strength advantage proved to be crucial, as he mounted Davis, and was awarded the TKO victory.
In the next bout, Richard Hale stepped into the cage against Nik Fekete, and quickly stepped right back out. Fekete shot in for the early takedown, and rained down strikes from side control. Hale managed to take his back from a north south position. Fekete stood up, and Hale locked in an inverted triangle choke. Fekete fell to the canvas, clearly unconscious seconds later. With the submission of the night, one that In a fight that should have ended in a submission, D.J Linderman manhandled the submission expert Raphael Davis. Linderman won the standup battle, and didn’t allow the fight to go to the ground until he sent Davis there for good with a powerful left hook. Linderman ended the fight in the middle of the third round via TKO. Another fight that should have brought about a submission finish ended in split decision. Daniel Gracie fought undefeated Tim Carpenter. In another upset, Carpenter dominated the favored Jiu-Jitsu artist in both the striking game as well as the ground. Gracie began a late comeback at the end of the second round, but it was not enough as the judges rendered their decision in favor of Carpenter to extend his undefeated streak to seven.
