Lyman Good vs. Michael CostaFormer Bellator Welterweight Champion Lyman Good (11-2) is back in action at Bellator 59 against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt Michael Costa (10-5-1) in a main card bout. Good, 26, is a New York-born mixed martial artist who fights out of the Tiger Schulmann Fight Team in New York City. Good debuted as a professional in 2005 and won his first seven bouts fighting in New Jersey-based regional organizations. Bellator signed Good in 2009 and he went on to win the Season 1 Welterweight Tournament with a TKO victory over Omar De La Cruz. Ben Askren took Good’s 170-pound belt in his first title defense last October at BFC 33. Trying to rebound from his title fight loss, Good entered the Season 4 Welterweight Tournament and advanced into the semifinal round before losing to Rick Hawn by split decision at BFC 39 this past April. Costa, 30, is a Brazil native who fights out of the Wand Fight Team in Las Vegas, NV. The 1 st degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu debuted as a professional in 2003 and won nine of his first twelve while fighting in regional events across his home country. Costa began to fight in Japan for Sengoku in 2008 and lost back to back bouts in his only appearances in the country. He then fought to a Draw in a Chines organization before winning his most recent bout last November in a Texas regional event winning TKO over Danny Salinas. Prediction – Good TKO
Kurt Pellegrino vs. Patricky FreireFormer UFC Lightweight Kurt “Batman” Pellegrino (16-6) will take on Bellator Lightweight Tournament Finalist Patricky “Pit-bull” Freire (9-2) in a Bellator 59 main card bout. Pellegrino, 32, is a New Jersey-based mixed martial artist who fights out of his own Kurt Pellegrino MMA gym in Point Pleasant. “Batman” made his professional debut in 2002 and won eight of his first nine while competing for organizations such as the WEC, Reality Fighting, Ring of Combat, and Pancrase. He joined the UFC in 2006 and won two of his first three inside the octagon. After dropping two of three in the middle of his UFC career, Pellegrino went on a winning streak defeating four straight opponents. Before leaving the UFC, Pellegrino dropped back-to-back bouts against George Sotiropoulos at UFC 116 and Gleison Tibau at UFC 128 this past March. Freire is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt who fights out of Team Nog and at the X Gym. “Pit-bull” made his professional debut in 2005 and won seven of his first eight fighting in Brazilian regional events. He then joined the Bellator organization for this year’s Lightweight Tournament. In the Lightweight Tournament, Freire defeated “Razor” Rob McCullough and Toby Imada to advance to the Lightweight Tournament Final where he lost a decision to Michael Chandler at BFC 44 this past May. Prediction – Pellegrino decision
Alexis Vila vs. Eduardo DantasUndefeated striking specialist Alexis Vila (11-0) will battle with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu based Eduardo Dantas (12-2) in a Bellator 59 Bantamweight Tournament Final in main card action. Vila, 40, is a Cuban native who now fights out of the American Top Team in Florida. The former Olympian Freestyle Wrestler made his MMA debut in 2007 and won his first nine fighting in small and mid-level organizations like MFA, G-Force Fights, and Warpath before singing with Bellator earlier this year. Vila was signed to be a participant in the Season 5 Bantamweight Tournament where he defeated Joe Warren by KO at BFC 51 this past September and Marcos Galvao at BFC 55 this October. Dantas, 22, is a Brazilian who fights out of the popular Nova Uniao fight team in his home country. Dantas made his official debut in 2007 and went on to win ten of his first twelve fighting in Japan and Brazil for organizations like Shooto, World Fighting Combat and Shooto Brazil. Dantas was also signed to participate in the Season 5 Bantamweight Tournament and defeated his first two opponents to advance to the Tournament Final. He defeated Wilson Reis at Bellator 51 this past September and then defeated Ed West by decision at Bellator 55 in October. Prediction – Dantas decision
Thiago Santos vs. Eric PrindleFormer United States Army soldier Eric Prindle (9-1) will try and earn a Heavyweight title opportunity with a victory over Brazilian Thiago Santos (10-1) in the main event at Bellator 59. Santos is a Brazilian native who fights out of the Top Brother team in his home country. In 2007, Santos made his official professional debut and won eight of his first nine bouts fighting for Amazon Fight, IAFC and other mid-level Brazilian regional promotions. Santos was signed by Bellator earlier this year and won a Heavyweight Tournament reserve bout at BFC 53 over Josh Burns this October and replaced an injured Mike Hayes in the semifinal round. He won his semifinal round bout at BFC 56 last month with a 1 st round submission victory over Neil Grove to earn his position in the Final. Prindle, 35, is an Erie, Pennsylvania native who fights out of the Death Clutch Gym. The former boxer made his professional MMA debut in 2008 and actually lost his debut before winning his next four bouts to earn an invitation into the Bellator organization. Prindle won at Bellator 40 with a TKO victory over Josh Burns to earn his way into the Heavyweight Tournament. He then defeated Abe Wagner with a decision victory at BFC 52 in the quarterfinal round and followed with a BFC 56 KO victory over Ron Sparks in the semis. Prediction – Prindle TKO
