Bellator 14 Results & RecapsBellator Fighting Championships kicked off their Season 2 schedule in April 2010, just a week before Bellator 14 which took place on April 15, 2010 in Chicago at the Chicago Theatre. Bellator 14 included two of the Lightweight Tournament fights as well as one fight from the Featherweight & Welterweight tournaments and the Bellator FC 14 fight recaps are listed below. Be sure to check the official Bellator 14 fight results now that the fights have become official.
Last Thursday Bellator 14 took place at the historic Chicago Theater, and as was the case during the first week of competition, week 2 held the same fast-paced action that was expected. The opening bout between Canadian Mike Ricci (5-1) and Team Curran fighter, Patrick Curran (10-3) brought immediate fireworks. This lightweight quarterfinal bout started slow, but after Curran found his range, he was able to connect with a heavy overhand right that put Ricci out for good. The KO stoppage happened at the 3:01 mark of round one. In the second Fox Sports Net televised bout of the night, season one veteran, Wilson Reis (10-1), took Shad Lierley (5-3) to the ground on multiple occasions and worked his ground-and-pound from there to earn the victory. After loosening Lierley up with his ground-and-pound, Reis sunk in the fight-ending rear naked choke submission at 3:33 of round three. Reis advances into the featherweight semifinal round later this summer. Olympic wrestler, Ben Askren (4-0), also made his much-anticipated Bellator debut in the first welterweight quarterfinal bout against UFC veteran Ryan Thomas (10-4). The bout came to a screeching halt when Askren got into a north-south position putting Thomas in a disadvantageous spot when referee, Dave Smith jumped in to intervene. The official decision went down as a 1st round submission at the 2:40 mark. In the night’s main event, another season one veteran, Toby Imada (26-13), took to the cage in a lightweight quarterfinal bout against WEC veteran James Krause (11-3). Krause proved to be a game opponent, but it was Imada’s experience and submission expertise that won it for him. Imada worked Krause over and took control of his arm midway through the 2nd round to secure the armbar submission. The official decision listed Imada over Krause at 2:44 of the 2nd round.
