Bellator 15 Results - Bellator FC 15 Results & Fight RecapsBellator Fighting Championships kicked off their Season 2 schedule in April 2010, just weeks before Bellator 15 which took place on April 22, 2010. Bellator 15 included three of the four Welterweight Tournament fights and the Bellator FC 15 fight card is listed below. Check out our recap of the official Bellator 15 fight results now that the fights have become official.
Bellator 15, the promotion’s first season 2 trip to the Mohegan Sun (Connecticut), was full of exciting contests and impressive performances. The only fight not contested in the welterweight division took place between William Romero and Patricio “Pitbull” Freire – both featherweights. The bout turned out to a one-sided affair, as “Pitbull” dominated Romero in impressive fashion. Romero missed with some strikes from top, and after a quick takedown by Pitbull, was submitted via toe hold. Pitbull (13-0) advances into the featherweight semis along with George Karakhanyan, Wilson Reis, and Joe Warren. Romero (5-1) fails in his first Bellator opportunity and for the first time in six professional bouts. Ryan Thomas made good in his second opportunity in two weeks to advance in Bellator’s welterweight tournament. Thomas, who lost in controversial fashion to Ben Askren last week, was filling in for Jim Wallhead who had travel issues and couldn’t make it. Thomas’ opponent, Jacob McClintock, looked like the aggressor early on utilizing both with strikes while standing, and a tight submission attempt on the ground. However, it was Thomas that kept grinding and working his ground and pound attack. It paid off when he pinned McClintock up against the fence and pounded him out with 49-seconds remaining in the 1 st round. The victory sets up a possible rematch between Thomas (11-4) and Askren. McClintock (6-1) was dealt a dose of reality dropping his first bout in seven fights. Maybe the most-anticipated fight on the night was another welterweight quarterfinal bout between open tryout winner Tyler Stinson and knockout artist Dan “The Handler” Hornbuckle. A few early exchanges were followed by a takedown from Hornbuckle, from there Stinson jumped into top position. Little did he know that it would be the wrong decision. Hornbuckle immediately tried to lock in the armbar but after some resistance, locked in a triangle choke submission instead. Stinson was forced to tap out at 2:03 of the 1 st round. Hornbuckle (20-2) is now successful over his last five fights and 18 out of his last 19 overall. Stinson (16-6) is still in the midst of a solid run losing for just the second time in nine fights. It was both fighters Bellator debuts. Steve Carl was the night’s third fighter to punch his ticket into the welterweight semifinals by earning a controversial split decision victory over Affliction veteran Brett Cooper. The bout seemed tied at one round apiece going into the final round, and when Cooper secured a few successful takedowns along with some ground and pound, it looked to be going in his favor. Two judges scored the bout for Carl and one for Cooper. The crowd voiced its opinion on the decision as well. Carl (10-1) is successful in eight straight fights; Cooper (11-6) has dropped two of his last three fights. It was both fighters Bellator debuts.
