Bellator Fighting Championships puts on their fifth event of 2010 with Bellator 17 which takes place on May 6, 2010 in Boston, Massachusetts and broadcast on Fox Sports Net. The Bellator FC 17 fight card is listed below, and be sure to check back for the official Bellator 17 fight results once the fights have become official.

Bellator 17 took place Thursday May 6th from the Wang Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts. Included on the nights main card was a pair of lightweight tournament bouts, a heavyweight bout, and a Bellator “superfight.” As usual, the weekly event produced some fast paced action loaded with some solid up-and-coming fighters alongside proven veterans.

Up first, Pat Curran pulled off a major upset by earning a unanimous decision victory over Roger Huerta in a semifinal round of Bellator’s season 2 lightweight tournament. Both fighters used kicks as their weapon of choice throughout the three round affair. Curran’s kicks were more effective, along with his superior takedown defense; he did do enough for the judges to award him the victory (29-28, 29-28, 29-28). Curran (11-3) will move onto the 155-pound final in what will be the biggest fight of his career. Huerta (21-4-1) falls for the third time in his last four fights.

Current lightweight title-holder, Eddie Alvarez, was also in action taking on UFC veteran Josh Neer in what the promotion billed as a “superfight.” Alvarez, again, proved why he is considered a top-10 lightweight in any organization by dominating the former octagon fighter, Neer. He easily stuffed Neer’s attempts to take him to the ground and when the fight did make it to the canvas, it was Alvarez who scored points with ground and pound. It was when the fight made it back to a standing position that Alvarez finished Neer off. After loosening Neer up, he sunk in a tight rear naked choke that left him unconscious at the 2:08 mark of round 2. Alvarez (20-2) has been on the winning side of the cage in ten of his past eleven contests, including four consecutive. Neer (27-10-1) falls in his Bellator debut and drops his third fight in his last five.

The usually flashy, Toby Imada, scored somewhat of a conventional finish to his lightweight semifinal round bout with former All-American wrestler Carey Vanier. Imada absorbed a flurry of strikes from Vanier in the 1 st round before regaining his composure and submitting him via armbar at 3:33 of round 2. Imada (25-13) has now won eleven of his last twelve fights, and now meets up with Curran for a chance at a rematch with Alvarez later this year. Vanier (8-3) has lost for the first time in his last eight fights.

Finally, in the night’s final TV fight, former two-time wrestling champ and Minnesota Martial Arts Academy fighter Cole Konrad stayed undefeated with a unanimous decision victory over Patrick Bennett. Konrad worked his ground and pound throughout the fight, but, did most of the damage in the 1 st round. The middle round was also Konrad’s; however he was quickly losing his stamina and didn’t do much in the 3 rd and final round. He did do enough to gain the judge’s decision (30-26, 29-28, 30-27) for his third win in as main chances. While Konrad (3-0) remains unbeaten, Bennett (1-1), who looked overmatched through much of the fight, falls for the first time in two pro bouts.
