Bellator Fighting Championships puts on their 7th event of 2010 with Bellator 19 which takes place on May 20, 2010 in Grand Prairie, Texas and broadcast on Fox Sports Net. The Bellator FC 19 fight card is listed below, and be sure to check back for the official Bellator 19 fight results once the fights have become official.

Dan Hornbuckle vs. Steve Carl

While both, Dan “The Handler” Hornbuckle and Steve Carl got to this welterweight semifinal round bout in totally different fashions, they needed only one more victory to move into the final round.

Steve Carl got the takedown less than thirty seconds into round 1, but Hornbuckle immediately went for the submission from his back. When Carl made a positioning mistake from the top, “The Handler” handled it and twisted his arm until he tapped out. The official decision was a 1st round submission at the 2:31 mark in favor of Hornbuckle.

Hornbuckle (21-2) moves into the final round to fight the winner of the second semifinal round bout. He has won six straight bouts. Meanwhile, Carl (10-2) had his eight fight winning streak snapped with the loss.

Ben Askren vs. Ryan Thomas

This was a rematch from the Bellator FC 14 welterweight quarterfinal round bout that Ben Askren won via controversial technical submission over Ryan Thomas. Thomas got a second chance winning against Jacob McClintock and earned another chance to prove that he should be the one representing the 170 pounders in the final round.

All three rounds of this semifinal round bout were similar. Askren earned a takedown at the beginning of each round and stayed on top for most of the frame. The former University of Missouri wrestling standout occasionally landed some strikes from top position, and would try to take Thomas’ back every now and then, but, each time the bell saved him. The judges gave Askren a 30-27, 30-27, 30-27 score on all three cards for the decisive victory and moved him onto the final round.

Askren (5-0) notched his first decision victory of his young career. He will move on to the final round to face Dan Hornbuckle. Thomas (11-5) has now dropped four of his last six bouts and will be fortunate to get another fight in the BFC organization.

Joe Soto vs. Diego Saraiva

Bellator featherweight champion Joe Soto was placed on the BFC 19 main card in a non-title bout against former UFC fighter Diego Saraiva in an organizational “superfight.”

The current champ earned a fairly easy takedown less than 40-seconds into the 1st round and began to pick his spots for his punches. Saraiva worked from his back using an effective closed guard to keep Soto away. That was until Soto connected with a hard elbow to the forehead of Saraiva that opened up a huge gash. Saraiva lasted the remainder of the 1st round, but during the intermission, the doctors called an end to the fight. The official decision read: Soto over Saraiva via TKO (doctor stoppage) 5:00.

Soto (9-0), who trains out of the Nor Cal Fighting Alliance, has stopped all but one of his career opponents, and is now, undefeated in four Bellator tries. Saraiva (18-9-1) had an impressive six-fight winning streak stopped, but, should receive another BFC opportunity.
