Bellator 22 Fight Card & Results
Bellator Fighting Championships put on another event in 2010 with Bellator 22 which took place on June 10, 2010 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida and was broadcast on Fox Sports Net. The official Bellator 22 fight results are listed below now that the fights have become official.
Demetrius Richards vs. Raphael Davis
Reign Training Center’s Raphael Davis (9-1) was dominant in the opening light-heavyweight bout on the main card at Bellator 22 defeating Demetrius Richards (5-3) via 1st round (2:51) submission – due to strikes.
Davis jumped all over Richards from the get-go and got the takedown right away. He took the back of Richards within seconds and started his ground and pound immediately. After some knees to the body, Davis finished his larger opponent with strikes, as he tapped out during one of Davis’ punching flurries.
Jarrod Card vs. Jose Vega
Little-known Jose Vega (8-3) picked up an impressive 1st round (0:39) KO victory over Jarrod “The Wildcard” Card (12-4-1) in a bantamweight showcase at Bellator 22.
After 30-seconds of mixing it up on their feet, Vega delivered a hard left hook that put Card out unconscious on his back. Vega added one more while Card was out before the referee stepped in to halt the bout. Vega hopefully makes his final claim for his inclusion into the Season 3 Bantamweight tournament later this summer.
Dan Hornbuckle vs. Ben Askren
Former University of Missouri wrestler Ben Askren (6-0) looked dominant in a surprising unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) victory over Dan “The Handler” Hornbuckle (21-3) in the Season 2 Welterweight Final. Askren will now move on and fight champion Lyman Good for the Bellator title.
Askren worked his takedowns to perfection all throughout the entire fight working to wear the taller and lankier Hornbuckle down. When Hornbuckle did get back to his feet, Askren didn’t allow him any type of room to work his dangerous strikes, instead choosing to smother him and put him on his back. Other than at the beginning of the 2nd round, when Hornbuckle landed a nice left hook, it was all Askren working his ground strikes on his way to a convincing decision victory.
Lisa Ward vs. Stephanie Frausto
Experience outweighed potential in a women’s 115-pound feature between United Training Center veteran Lisa Ward (13-3) and 19 year-old Stephanie Frausto (2-2) at Bellator 22.
Ward converted an easy takedown seconds into round one, and worked from the top. She immediately passed Frausto’s guard and slithered into full mount. Frausto gave up her back and Ward slipped her arm under her chin, and after some initial resistance, choked out her less-experienced opponent (2:01) into the 1st round for her ninth career submission victory. She will now be placed into the competitive Bellator Season 3 Women’s 115-pound tournament this August.
