Sam Peter vs Eddie Chambers Heavyweight Fight Preview & Prediction
On Friday March 27, Sam Peter is looking to regain his championship form against American heavyweight Eddie Chambers. The heavyweight clash of top contenders will be broadcast on ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights.” It is a major crossroads battle for both men. A second consecutive loss for Peter, following his demolition at the hands of champion Vitali Klitchsko would keep him out of the title hunt for quite some time. A loss for Chambers would once again halt his rise to the top of the division and place him at the back of the line behind other emerging prospects. It’s a must win contest for both fighters and the clash of styles could make for an interesting and entertaining evening.
Sam Peter vs Eddie Chambers PredictionWhich version of these two men will we see show up? The last time we saw Peter, he seemed sluggish and completely incapable of mounting any form of sustained or effective attack. It was a far cry from his aggressive, knockout performances when he burst onto the heavyweight scene. The loss followed several uninspired performances. But was it due to complacency against an opponent who hadn’t fought for several years being out of shape or was it a sign of a real drop off in his game? If Peter doesn’t have his conditioning right and isn’t mentally focused, another L will be added to his resume. That is of course, if Eddie Chambers shows up ready to go. The last time he was on the major stage, he fought fellow rising star Alexander Povetkin. He was dominating the first half of the fight and then seemingly stopped throwing combinations. Similar questions have to be asked of his questioning and his mental game heading into a major fight.
If Chambers is ready to fire on all cylinders, he has a crisp jab and some slick defensive skills. He should be able to control Peter’s aggression by using his movement, getting his straight punches to land before Peter’s wild, curving homerun swings and countering him when Peter does get off first. Peter certainly has the ability to change a fight at a moment’s notice, but in recent outings he’s also shown susceptibility to getting hurt and getting beaten out of his game plan. If Chambers can begin to apply the jab early and often, he should be able to cruise his way towards a unanimous decision. As each losing round passes, Peter could become increasingly more frustrated and disheartened, allowing Chambers to further assert his style. This fight is a tossup, but I predict that “Fast” Eddie Chambers will line himself up for a title shot by earning a decision over the falling, once heavyweight savior to be, Sam Peters.
