A Fan's View from his Couch: WEC 38 - Varner vs Cerrone

I demand a rematch! Ok, maybe I don’t have that power, but seriously that was a filet minion worthy fight that ended as pure bologna! Did Cerrone fight Varner or a Jack Hammer - his face was mangled. Cowboy up worked for the Red Sox but for Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone it was cowboy down over and over again. I’m blown away on how it was a split decision, but it’s a fans view from his couch.

(Do you think if he won a rematch that Cerrone would make the WEC lightweight title belt into a pimped ‘cowboy’ esque buckle?)

When 5 rounds weren’t enough, I guess 5 1/2 was! Jen’s said “Lil Evil” was back and Urijah laid out a little bit of evil on his body, mind and soul. More small guys showing that the sport of MMA isn’t ruled by the behemoths like other combat sports. We heard Faber call out Brown and if he can take care of Garcia that has to be next on each man’s docket. I hope Pulver isn’t done, but at the same time I hate seeing legends become doormats and gate keepers. Urijah is just a cut above what Pulver of today is, too bad these guys couldn’t both fight at their prime, what a war that would have been!

There is nothing like two guys who seem to really not like each other; even if for no reason, but to hype themselves up. Villefort vs. Campbell both fought as though they knew this was there one chance to impress Frank, Lorenzo and Dana; for all intents and purposes it was, and they both displayed what they are good at - jits and power. No surprise here as jits and technique reigned supreme. I don’t think Carlos Condit has anything to worry about, but maybe in a year or two with more skills added to his arsenal Villefort could see himself making some waves at 170, MAYBE.

Boy do I love the little guys; Jose Aldo goes Tito Ortiz on us by running into the stands to celebrate in front of the San Diego crowd after destroying hometown up-and-comer Renaldo Perez. Nothing is better than when two jujitsu practitioners decide to have a stand up war (unless it’s George Gurgel). A great display of 1-2-3 combos had me on the edge of my couch, literally! And boom a great knee and pounce. Aldo has gained my respect as a knockout artist. Wouldn’t want to be either of those guys tomorrow after all of those leg kicks - heres to Jose getting a shot at Cub Swanson…

Can anyone explain to me why the ring reporter asks such dumb questions, “Can anyone beat you (Aldo) at 145?” How about the champ Mike Brown, Leonard Garcia, Urijah, or Jens - what a dumb question!
