MMA Big Show Conviction Preview

On June 20th at the Belterra Casino Resort & Spa in Belterra, Indiana, three of Scott Dryden’s MMA Future Stars will be on display. In the Main Event undefeated Mojo Horne will battle 8-3 John Troyer in what should be a good matchup. In an amateur bout Steve Muldrow 5-2 will battle Chris Bennett 11-1. This is a great matchup between two of the best young fighters in Ohio. Muldrow is 23 years old and Bennett is 18. The event will also feature the always tough Joe “The Hammer” Ammerman against Danny Woodruff.

Undefeated Relentless Roger Bowling offers his take on the big three matchups:

Mojo Horne vs. John Troyer:

Mojo Horne training for MMA Big Show: Conviction

I’ve watched Troyer fight before. He is an awesome fighter. I’ve fought Mojo and now train with him. Everyone knows how good he is. I definitely have to take Mojo in this fight via a 2nd round submission.

Joe Ammerman vs. Danny Woodruff:

I don’t know a lot about Woodruff and really haven’t heard much about him. Joe will be coming into the fight in great shape. I see Joe winning this fight via submission early in the 1st.

Chris Bennett vs. Steve Muldrow:

I will take Muldrow over Bennett. Stylistically it is an interesting matchup. Chris likes to work off of his back and Steve is a great wrestler with very good submission defense. Chris is a tough kid. I was fortunate enough to train with him a lot as he was coming up. He was 15-16 years old in there every day just like all of us pro fighters. We were beating him up pretty good but he kept coming back. I think Steve’s going to be stronger than him and Steve has a little better boxing.

I talked to Chris Bennet and Steve Muldrow to get their take on the ballyhooed fight:

Bennett - I looked Steve up and have heard about him from a few other fighters. I know he is a really good wrestler and a good boxer. After watching his fight with Matt Egner I know my stand up is going to be superior. On the ground he looks like he is a strong wrestler. I have really good jiu-jitsu and I know how to take wrestlers and put them in really bad places. Hopefully my jiu-jitsu is going to be superior. If he wants to keep the fight standing up then I can do that as well. I feel like I’m better standing up as well. We will see what happens on June 20th. I’ve been having guys a lot bigger than Steve train with me on wrestling. I feel like I’m ready for him. I just fought a guy who was 170lb that walked around at 190lbs. He was strong as hell but I beat him. He took me down and I submitted him.

Muldrow (after hearing quotes from Chris) - I don’t think it’s any big secret that he has good jiu-jitsu. I’ve been training really hard on jiu-jitsu and really getting better on a weekly basis. I think I’m starting to get the point where I can start to use my jiu-jitsu in a fight. It does take some time to get from rolling and using jiu-jitsu to being able to use it in a fight. As far as stand up goes, I actually think I have the advantage there. I’m getting better on stand up as well. I can’t really tell you what the difference in the fight will be but all I know is that I’m going to win. Part of the reason I’m going to be so confident coming into this fight is because of Team Vision. No disrespect to Chris’ gym but I train with the best gym in the city. It all starts with Rod Housley and the environment that he sets. It is a great learning atmosphere and everyone gets along there. Every day you want to get better and you do get better because everyone is helping each other out and at the same time it is still a competitive environment. I have a great boxing coach in Lou Aldridge, a great jiu-jitsu coach in Aaron Thomas and we just got a new kickboxing coach in Scott O’Brien. Training with guys like Roger Bowling, Victor O’Donnell, Dustin Winterhalt and Jordan Sullivan combined with the trainers I just don’t see how he can beat me.

This should be a great fight between two young fighters well on their way. For ticket information please visit www.mmabigshow.com
