UFC 124 Aftermath: St-Pierre Dominates

While UFC 124 was not a star-studded event on paper, the event itself proved to be well worth the price of the PPV as shown in the UFC 124 results. Coming into the event in Montreal, the St-Pierre vs Koscheck looked to be the lone fight worthy of a Pay Per View event, but the televised fights proved to be exciting with three of the fights ending in round one. The early stoppages included a surprising knockout as well as an impressive TKO and submission resulting in the fans being the real winners as the UFC broadcast multiple preliminary fights due to the quick ending to these fights.

St-Pierre picks apart Koscheck in dominating victory

The UFC Welterweight Champion proved worthy of his belt as well as his spot near the top of the MMA Pound for Pound lists as St-Pierre won the fight with Josh Koscheck thanks to his fantastic use of the jab. According to Joe Rogan, GSP landed more jabs than he's ever seen in a MMA fight causing Koscheck's right eye to swell by the end of the 1st round and later leaving Koscheck without vision on his right side. St-Pierre ended up taking all five rounds on the judges' scorecards for the 50-45 win and his 5th title defense.

What's next for GSP was the topic that Joe Rogan seemed to have trouble answering after the fight, and it's not really a difficult question to answer at all. When Jake Shields defeated Martin Kampmann at UFC 121 it was said that Shields, the former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion, would be next in line to face Georges St-Pierre. While Shields' resume is certainly deserving having not lost a fight in six years, there is plenty of reason to think the winner of the Jon Fitch vs. BJ Penn will get a title shot.

Whatever happens with the 170 pound division, you can rest assured that Dana White will do everything in his power to try to keep Jon Fitch from getting another shot at the title. Fitch is arguably the most underrated fighter in the UFC and possibly the best pound for pound fighter in MMA without a belt. Fitch has won 12 of his 13 career UFC fights with his lone loss coming to GSP in August 2008 at UFC 87. Since then Fitch has cleaned out the welterweight division going 5-0, yet he continually is overlooked in the division for less deserving fighters like Dan Hardy and Koscheck.
