UFC 96 has come and gone and Scott Dryden takes a look at what we learned in his UFC 96 recap. UFC Fight Night 18: Condit vs Kampmann will be held for the first time ever in Nashville, Tennessee at the Sommett Center. The main card features a few former contenders on The Ultimate Fighter as well as a couple of new faces.
Junie Browning vs Cole MillerDuring The Ultimate Fighter, Junie Browning was the little trouble maker and had an issue with his drinking, but that was then and this is now. Junie has improved his ground game and his stamina and looking to pound on a certain Cole Miller. Miller is 14-1 in his professional career and has more experience in the UFC. I feel that this will be a decent fight going all three rounds. Junie is going to put up a fight but in the end I think Miller will end up on top. Official Decision: Cole Miller wins by unanimous decision at the end of three rounds.
Tyson Griffin vs Rafael Dos AnjosAfter his loss against Jeremy Stephens back in November Rafael Dos Anjos is looking for a little redemption, but he’ll have a tough time facing the brick wall of a man that is Tyson Griffin. Griffin last fought in October when he lost by unanimous decision to Sean Sherk, so you know he’ll be fired up. Both fighters have something to fight for having lost their last fight so it should be a good one. Tyson Griffin seems to have a tendency to prolong and extend fights. His last 6 fights have gone the distance, not his last 2 or 3 but his last 6! Though I don’t believe this one will. Official Decision: Tyson Griffin wins late in the second round by submission.
Ryan Bader vs Carmelo MarreroHaving last fought on the season finale of The Ultimate Fighter, Ryan Bader is an undefeated fighter trying to close in on his first legit fight outside of TUF. But I have a feeling Carmelo won’t be to happy with that idea. Carmelo is a tough guy who I would imagine doesn’t like losing. This fight will obviously eventually get to the ground seeing as both men wrestled in college. Bader was more successful in college while Marrero likes the takedown. So it will be a very technical fight. Official Decision: Carmelo Marrero delivers Ryan “Darth” Bader his first professional loss after three rounds of fighting by split decision.
UFC Fight Night 18 Main Event:Carlos Condit vs Martin KampmannDebuting in the UFC for the first time is Carlos Condit. Debuting in the UFC for the first time – Yes, but Carlos accumulated 27 fights over all with the 28 th coming on the 1st. Condit is the WEC Welterweight Champion and has decided to switch franchises. Kampmann has been in the UFC for a while and has done some damage. With wins over Thales Leites, Jorge Rivera, and Alexandre Barros, I think he knows what he’s doing. This will be a great fight with Carlos trying to impress Dana White and the rest of the UFC. Martin is still going to try to continue to make a small comeback over his loss to Nate Marquardt. Both fighters can finish a fight pretty much any way they want, though I have a feeling that this one will stay primarily on the feet. I’m thinking that Condit is going to get a hard welcoming to the UFC and will lose the fight. Official Decision: Martin Kampmann wins by TKO in Round 1.
