UFC Live on Versus 4 Predictions: Preliminary Card
Michael Johnson vs. Edward Faaloloto
The Ultimate Fighter 12 runner-up Michael Johnson (8-5) will try and secure his first organizational victory when he meets promotional newcomer Edward Faaloloto (2-1) in a lightweight bout on the UFC on Versus 4 preliminary card.
Johnson, 25, is a Missouri native who splits his training camp between his home gym Springfield Fight Club and Jackson’s Submission Fighting in New Mexico. Johnson began professionally in 2008 and won eight of his first twelve bouts while competing in several Mid-western based promotions. He was brought in to fight on the TUF 12 cast and defeated Pablo Garza, Aaron Wilkinson, Alex Caceres, and Nam Phan to make it to the final bout where he was defeated by Jonathan Brookins via unanimous decision.
Faaloloto is a Hawaii born mixed martial artist who fights out of Chris Leben’s UFC gym in Honolulu. He debuted in November 2009 and won bouts in his home state for the X-1 promotion in 2009 and 2010 over Taylor Cochran (0-1) and Justin Babbs (0-0). He then joined the WEC organization but lost in his promotional debut via TKO in November 2010 against Anthony Njokuani at WEC 52.
Prediction – Johnson TKO
Ricardo Lamas vs. Matt Grice
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist Ricardo Lamas (9-2) will meet Matt Grice (13-3), a four fight UFC veteran beginning his second stint inside the octagon, in a featherweight bout on the UFC on Versus 4 preliminary card.
Lamas, 29, is a Chicago based mixed martial artist who fights out of the Top Notch gym. He made his professional debut in 2008 and won his first five bouts while fighting in small promotions throughout Illinois and Colorado. He was brought into the WEC in early 2009 and won four of his first five including three in a row over James Krause, Bendy Casimir, and Dave Jansen. He lost his most recent bout at WEC 53 last December via KO against Yuri Alcantara.
Grice, 29, is an Oklahoma based mixed martial artist who fights out of Mad Squabbles and Titan Martial Arts. He debuted in 2005 and won his first eight bouts while competing in Oklahoma and Texas. He was brought in to the UFC and lost three of his four bouts for the organization winning at UFC 77 over Jason Black via split decision. After being released following his UFC 100 loss in July 2009, Grice put together four straight victories to earn his way back into the UFC. His most recent victory came in April 2011 via unanimous decision over David Gardner at FCF 46.
Former Division I wrestler Nik Lentz (21-3-2) will try and pick up his sixth octagon victory when he meets Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt Charles Oliveira (14-1) in a UFC on Versus 4 lightweight bout on the preliminary card.
Lentz, 26, is a Texas born mixed martial artist who has since relocated to Minnesota where he fights out of the Minnesota Martial Arts Academy. Lentz turned pro in 2005 and won sixteen of his first twenty bouts fighting for promotions such as EFX, X-1, and Xtreme Fighting Organization. He was brought into the UFC and has gone undefeated over his six promotional contests. He fought Thiago Tavares to a majority draw at UFC Fight Night 20 in just his second UFC bout, however has won four in a row since. He defeated Rob Emerson, Andre Winner, Tyson Griffin, and Waylon Lowe in succession.
Oliveira, 21, is a Brazil native who fights out of the Bronx’s Gold Team USA. He made his professional debut in 2008 and won his first twelve bouts while fighting in his native Brazil. He made his UFC debut in August 2010 at UFC on Versus 2 and submitted Darren Elkins with a submission of the night performance. He followed that victory with a win over Efrain Escudero at UFC Fight Night 22 but lost to Jim Miller at UFC 124 this past December.
Prediction – Oliveira submission
Daniel Roberts vs. Rich Attonito
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu purple belts Daniel Roberts (12-2) and Rich Attonito (9-4) will match skills at UFC on Versus 4 in a welterweight bout on the preliminary card in a rebound bout for both competitors.
Roberts, 30, is an Illinois based mixed martial artist who fights out of Cesar Gracie JJ and Fairtex Gym in California. He began his professional career in 2007 and won his first nine overall while fighting exclusively in Oklahoma before joining the UFC. He lost his UFC on Versus debut via KO against John Howard but won his next three over Forest Petz, Mike Guymon, and Greg Soto. He was defeated via unanimous decision at UFC 129 this past April against Claude Patrick in his most recent action.
Attonito, 34, is a New Jersey based fighter who fights out of the American Top Team in Florida. He won seven of his first ten professional bouts fighting all over the east coast from Massachusetts to New Jersey to Florida. He joined the TUF 11 cast and won his official debut at the finale with a victory over Jaime Yager. He made it two for two with a unanimous decision victory over Rafael Natal at UFC Fight Night 22 last September. He dropped his first UFC bout this past December at the TUF 12 finale with a decision loss against Dave Branch.
Prediction – Roberts decision
Joe Lauzon vs. Curt Warburton
The Ultimate Fighter 5 participant Joe Lauzon (19-6) will try and reverse his recent slide when he meets octagon veteran Curt Warburton (7-2) in a UFC on Versus 4 lightweight bout on the preliminary card.
Lauzon, 27, is a Massachusetts based mixed martial artist who has over seven years of professional experience to his credit. He won thirteen of his first sixteen compiled over his first two years of competition. He won a UFC 63 bout prior to competing on TUF 5 and added three victories overall to start his octagon career. He defeated opponents such as Jens Pulver, Kyle Bradley and Jeremy Stephens before dropping two of his last three inside of the octagon. He lost a UFC 123 bout via submission against George Sotiropoulos last November in his most recent action.
Warburton, 30, is an English based mixed martial artist who fights out of the Wolfslair MMA Academy. He debuted in 2007 and won six of his first seven which included a victory over UFC lightweight Ross Pearson in a small English based promotion. Since joining the UFC, Warburton has won once and lost once. He lost a unanimous decision against Spencer Fisher at UFC 120 before defeating Maciej Jewtuszko at UFC 122 this past February.
Prediction – Lauzon submission
Joe Stevenson vs. Javier Vazquez
The Ultimate Fighter 2 winner Joe Stevenson (31-13) will try and resurrect his once promising career at UFC on Versus 4 when he meets struggling jiu-jitsu veteran Javier Vazquez (15-5) in a preliminary card bout contested in the featherweight division.
Stevenson, 29, is a California based mixed martial artist who now fights out of Jackson’s Submission Fighting in New Mexico. He made his professional debut in 1999 and went on to win 23 of his first 32 bouts fighting mostly for King of the Cage, Gladiators Challenge, and Warriors Quest. He began UFC career after winning TUF 2 and won five of his first six overall inside the octagon. He dropped three of his next four before winning back to back bouts in 2009. Recently however Stevenson hasn’t been able to get in the win column. He has lost three in a row including a UFC on Versus 3 bout in March against Danny Castillo.
Vazquez, 35, is a Cuba born mixed martial artist who fights out of Gracie Jiu Jitsu Academy in California. Vazquez, a 2 nd degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, began competing as a professional in 1998 and won thirteen of his first fifteen fighting for King of the Cage, Shooto, and Elite XC organizations. He dropped his first two WEC bouts before turning it around and winning back-to-back bouts over Jens Pulver and Mackens Semerzier. He dropped his most recent fight at WEC 52 last November with a unanimous decision against Chad Mendes.
Prediction – Stevenson decision
Tyson Griffin vs. Manvel Gamburyan
Tyson Griffin (14-5) will try and snap his current three fight losing streak when he meets The Ultimate Fighter 5 runner-up Manvel Gamburyan (11-5) in a UFC on Versus 4 preliminary card bout contested in the featherweight division.
Griffin, 27, is a California based mixed martial artist who fights out of Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas. Griffin debuted in 2004 and won his first seven bouts fighting for promotions like Gladiators Challenge and Strikeforce. He was brought into the UFC in 2006 and won seven of his first nine octagon bouts with victories over Clay Guida, Thiago Tavares, and Hermes Franca. Griffin has hit a recent slide after losing his last three bouts including a UFC 123 bout last November against Nik Lentz.
Gamburyan, 30, is an Armenian-American who has over twelve years of mixed martial arts experience to his credit. He won six of his first seven overall while fighting for Kage Kombat, Reality Submission Fighting and King of the Cage organizations. After joining the TUF 5 cast, Gamburyan lost at the TUF 5 finale against Nate Diaz but won back to back bouts following his debut. He lost back to back lightweight bouts following his winning streak causing him to move into the WEC’s featherweight division where he won his first three bouts. After defeating John Franchi, Leonard Garcia, and Mike Brown, Gamburyan lost at WEC 51 via KO against Jose Aldo for the organizations’ Featherweight Championship.

UFC Live on Versus 4 Predictions: Main Card
Matt Mitrione vs. Christian Morecraft
The Ultimate Fighter 10 participant Matt Mitrione (4-0) will try and keep his undefeated record when he meets dangerous striker Christian Morecraft (7-1) in a UFC on Versus 4 heavyweight bout positioned on the main card.
Mitrione, 32, is a former NFL player who transitioned into mixed martial arts through The Ultimate Fighter 10. His official debut came at the TUF 10 finale when he defeated another former NFL lineman, Marcus Jones. He has since added victories over Kimbo Slice at UFC 113, Joey Beltran at UFC 119, and Tim Hague at UFC Fight for the Troops 2 this past January.
Morecraft, 25, is a Washington D.C. native who now fights out of New York at Team Bombsquad. He made his professional debut in 2008 and won his first six overall while fighting on the Massachusetts regional circuit. He lost his UFC 117 debut via KO against Stefan Struve but rebounded with a technical submission victory over Sean McCorkle at UFC Fight Night 24 this past March. Morecraft has never been passed the 2 nd round in any of his eight career bouts.
The Ultimate Fighter 7 participant Matt Brown (11-10) will likely be fighting for his roster position at UFC on Versus 4 when he meets John Howard (14-6) in a welterweight bout on the main card portion.
Brown, 30, is an Ohio based mixed martial artist who now fights out of Seattle, Washington at AMC MMA. Brown debuted in 2005 and fought to a 7-6 mark after his first two years as a professional. He made it onto TUF 7 and picked up a victory at the finale sparking a stretch that saw him win four of his first five inside the octagon. Among the opponents that Brown defeated inside the octagon included Matt Arroyo, Ryan Thomas, Pete Sell, and James Wilks. He has since lost three in a row including his most recent last November at UFC 123 when he was submitted by Brian Foster.
Howard, 28, is a Boston native who fights out of his hometown gym Wai Kru MMA. He made his professional debut in 2004 and won ten of his first fourteen including an impressive victory over current UFC welterweight Charlie Brenneman to earn a position on the UFC’s roster. He won his first four inside the octagon defeating Chris Wilson, Tamdan McCrory, Dennis Hallman, and Daniel Roberts. Recently however, Howard has been scuffling losing back-to-back bouts including a TKO loss to Jake Ellenberger at UFC on Versus 2 last summer and a decision loss against Thiago Alves at UFC 124 this past December.
Prediction – Brown decision
Cheick Kongo vs. Pat Barry
An intriguing heavyweight bout featuring a pair of former kick boxers will be featured on the UFC on Versus 4 co-main event as Cheick Kongo (15-6-2) meets Pat Barry (6-2).
Kongo, 36, is a France native who fights out of England at the Wolfslair MMA Academy. He made his mixed martial arts debut in 2001 and won seven of his first ten while fighting for It’s Showtime, Rings, and King of the Ring promotions. He made the move into the UFC in 2006 and UFC 61 and went on to win seven of his first nine octagon bouts defeating the likes of Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic and Antoni Hardonk. After his impressive UFC start, Kongo dropped back to back bouts against current Champion Cain Velasquez and former Champion Frank Mir. He defeated Paul Buentello at UFC on Versus but fought Travis Browne to a majority draw at UFC 120 last October.
Barry, 31, is a Louisiana native who fights out of Wisconsin at Roufasport with famed trainer Duke Roufas. He debuted in May 2008 and won his first three bouts while fighting for Combat USA. He transitioned into the UFC and has alternated wins and losses since his UFC 92 TKO victory over Dan Evensen. He also owns octagon victories over Antoni Hardonk and Joey Beltran this past January at Fight for the Troops 2.
Prediction – Kongo decision
UFC on Versus Main Event: Nate Marquardt vs. Rick Story
Former middleweight contender Nate Marquardt (31-10-2) will try and establish himself as a welterweight contender beginning with his UFC on Versus 4 main event match up against rising star Rick Story (13-3).
Marquardt, 32, is a Wyoming native who fights out of Jackson’s Submission Fighting and Grudge Training Center. He began his professional career in 1999 and had 29 bouts including 21 victories before beginning his UFC career in 2005. He began by winning his first four octagon bouts to earn a UFC 73 middleweight title bout against Anderson Silva. Marquardt failed to dethrone Silva but eventually caught fire again and won four of five from September 2008 through September 2010 to earn a # 1 contender’s bout versus Yushin Okami. He was also defeated by Okami at UFC 122 this past November sparking an interest to move down in weight. Marquardt did pick up a March 2011 UFC 128 victory over Dan Miller before dropping to 170 pounds.
Story, 26, is a Washington native who fights out of his home state at the Brave Legion. Story began his mixed martial arts career in 2007 and won seven of his first nine bouts while fighting all over the northwest coast in small promotions. He lost in June 2009 at UFC 99 in his debut bout against John Hathaway but would turn it around and win his next six in a row. Among his latest victories include wins over Johny Hendricks at the TUF 12 finale this past December and a unanimous decision victory over Thiago Alves at UFC 130 just last month.
