UFC Fight Night 22 Fight Card & Results: UFN 22 Fight Card - September 15
UFC Fight Night 22, aka UFN 22, took place on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 in Austin, Texas. The UFC Fight Night 22 event was headlined by Nate Marquardt facing Rousimar Palhares. The UFC Fight Night 22 results the night of the event with the official UFC Fight Night 22 results for the September 15 event listed below.
Ross Pearson vs. Cole MillerCole Miller turned in another all-around solid performance leading to a 2nd round (1:49) rear naked choke submission victory over England’s Ross Pearson in a UFC Fight Night 22 main card bout. After trading strikes throughout much of the 1st round, it was clear Pearson was the stronger of the two lightweights. Even with Pearson holding a slight advantage after one round, Miller came out aggressive catching Pearson on their feet, knocking him to the ground, jumping on his back, slipping in a choke and forcing him to tap out. Miller, now a winner in four of his last five bouts, improves his career record to 17-4 including a 6-2 mark for the UFC and should make a significant leap upward in the 155-pound division. Pearson shouldn’t fall too far down the lightweight ladder, however he does suffer his first defeat in the UFC and moves his record to 11-4 including 3-1 inside the octagon.
Jim Miller vs. Gleison TibauNew Jersey-based Jim Miller was able to dominate the majority of his UFC Fight Night 22 main card bout with BJJ specialist Gleison Tibau and pick up the (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) unanimous decision victory. Both fighters began by catching their opponent with solid strikes and landing some heavy exchanges. It was during the 2nd round when Miller used a big left hand to rock Tibau and followed up with a knee, although he wasn’t able to stop him. Tibau recovered and earned a takedown, but wasn’t able to generate much on offense. Miller went back to finding a home with his punches during the 3 rd and final round helping him seal up the decision victory. Miller, making his claim as a legitimate contender, has now won five consecutive bouts and thirteen out of his last fourteen overall. He is now 18-2 for his career and 7-1 inside the octagon. Tibau falls to 21-7 overall and 7-5 for the UFC, he came into this bout on the strength of back-to-back victories.
Efrain Escudero vs. Charles OliveiraAfter trading low blows, BJJ expert Charles Oliveira pulled off one of his flashiest submission’s of his career when he jumped on TUF 8 winner Efrain Escudero’s back and slapped in a 3rd round (2:25) rear naked choke submission for the UFC Fight Night 22 main card victory. Escudero did a fairly solid job of defending Oliveira’s takedowns while keeping the fight in the standing position for the first two rounds. Oliveira realized that his takedowns weren’t coming so he attacked with his low leg kicks for much of the fight. It was during the final round when Oliveira caught a kick by Escudero and took him to the mat, but as Escudero stood back up, Oliveira remained on his back. Oliveira was able to slip the rear naked choke and put an exciting end to his upset victory. The victory is Oliveira’s second in as many UFC bouts; he moved his overall mark to 14-0. Escudero, who failed to make weight, drops to 13-2 overall and 3-2 inside the octagon, he has lost two of his last three bouts.
Nate Marquardt vs. Rousimar PalharesNate “The Great” Marquardt was able to escape a dangerous leg lock by his UFC Fight Night 22 main event opponent Rousimar Palhares and connect with a heavy right hand to secure his 1st round (3:28) TKO victory. Marquardt was able to land a couple big shots, but Palhares was still able to get the fight to the ground, right where he wanted it. Palhares took top position and immediately went for Marquardt’s leg. Marquardt was able to slip out, and when Palhares pointed to the referee to signal what he thought was grease on his leg, Marquardt took advantage and tagged his grounded opponent. He added six or seven extra shots from top position and put a cap on his first round finish. Marquardt has now won four of his last five bouts and reclaims a spot as a middleweight contender. His overall record improves to 30-9-2 and 9-3 for the UFC. Palhares falls to 11-3 overall and 4-2 inside of the octagon.
