UFC 93: Franklin vs. Henderson Fight Recap
First of all, congratulations to Dan Henderson on the win against Rich Franklin, earning the opportunity to coach on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter opposite Michael Bisping.
Now to the Fight.
Both fighters start out slow, kind of feeling each other out. Henderson lands a nice right but as he goes in for more, he slips sending the fight to the ground. They roll around for a bit, then Henderson lands a few nice shots to Franklin’s face followed by knees and elbows to further tenderize him. Franklin then finds a hole and gets free bringing the fight back up to the feet. The men continue to exchange punches and kicks, each landing a few good ones, until the round is over.
Round Two: Both fighters come out swinging, a few land. Franklin gets a nice knee-punch combo on Henderson. Dan goes into the clinch and finishes with a nice take down. Franklin looks for a triangle and an arm bar but Henderson won’t let him. Dan controls the rest of the round by continuing to rain down the right hands upon Franklin’s face.

The Final Round: A few nice shots from Franklin land as Henderson tries to execute a failed take down attempt followed by a successful one transferring the fight to the ground again. With both guys looking for better position, Franklin gets to his feet, throws a few punches and brings Henderson up as well. You can see that Franklin’s conditioning is proving to be superior as Henderson wobbles about the ring. Franklin tries to score a few points in the judges’ eyes by entering the clinch, looking for the takedown. Henderson has nothing of it. He tries to go for the head kick and slips in the process. Next, Henderson accidentally pokes Franklin in the eye, sending the fight to a short recess. When it resumes nothing really happens as the fight goes to the judges’ score cards.
(29-28) Henderson, (30-27) Franklin, and (29-28) Henderson.
Overall this was a very entertaining fight and I wouldn’t mind seeing a rematch, even though it probably won’t be for a little while, if at all.
