WEC 42 predictions, results and complete coverage provided by Pro Fighting FansPicks, results & fight recaps provided for every WEC 42 fight
The World Extreme Cagefighting organization, a sister organization to the UFC under the Zuffa umbrella, will “get it on” Sunday, August 9th from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Many MMA fans who are just getting over their hangover from Saturday night’s UFC 101 event, can relax and wind down and recover by watching WEC 42 live on the Versus network at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT. The staff here at ProFighting-Fans.com has provided you with the most up to date preview, including predictions, of the entire WEC 42 fight card. If you’re interested in getting updates from the preliminary bouts, they will be posted shortly after the completion each bout. The main card bouts will be updated after each round; beginning shortly after Versus begins coverage at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT. WEC Bantamweight Champion, Miguel Torres, is set to defend his belt against top contender Brian Bowles. Torres has defended his belt three times and is widely regarded as one of the best pound for pound fighters in MMA, but the undefeated Bowles should prove to be one of his toughest opponents to date. Since joining the WEC in 2007, Torres has run right through his five opponents, producing a stoppage in all but one bout. Torres began his title run in just his second WEC bout at WEC 32, defeating Chase Beebe with a 1st round submission. Since then, Torres has answered the challenges by stopping Yoshiro Maeda and Manny Tapia at WEC 34 and WEC 37 respectively. In his most recent defense, Torres was taken the distance by Takeya Mizugaki, but won a unanimous decision after five hard fought rounds. Challenger Bowles is an undefeated grappler who also has power in his right hand. He has easily sat down all seven of his career opponents with stoppages, including the last four WEC opponents. With consecutive victories against Charlie Valencia, Marcos Galvao, and Damacio Page, Bowles was matched up with Will Ribeiro at WEC 37. Bowles made his opponent look over whelmed by bullying him on the ground until finishing it in the 3 rd round with a guillotine choke. The only man to take Miguel Torres the distance, Takeya Mizugaki, is in action against Jeff Curran, who is trying to get back to respectability after losing three straight. Also, the next top bantamweight contender may be decided when Dominick Cruz meets Joseph Benavidez. Upstart lightweight fighters, Ricardo Lamas and Danny Castillo round out the main card as they both want to jump up the 155 pound ladder with a victory.
