UFC Fight Night 21 Play-by-Play: Kenny Florian (14-4) vs. Takanori Gomi (31-5, 1 NC)

1st round – Mario Yamasaki gets them going.  Florian comes out and fakes a jab several times.  Gomi looks hesitant but takes a jab by Florian.  Gomi misses with an uppercut and Florian hits with a right jab.  Gomi takes a leg kick and throws a right.  His right missed but he takes a jab from Florian.  Florian linges at Gomi and Gomi pushes a couple punches at FLorian.  Florian blocked Gomi’s punches.  Florian rocked Gomi with a left hand and missed with a knee.  Gomi recovers and missed with another left hand.  Florian fades away from Gomi’s left hand.  Florian now tags Gomi with a jab to his face.  Florian rocks Gomi with a combination of punches.  Gomi misses with a body shot and backs away.  Florian continues to push forward and takes a kick from Gomi.  Florian throws a head kick but its blocked by Gomi.  Florian connects with a left jab and then has his leg kick blocked.  Gomi grabs Florian’s waist and is stuffed.  Florian continues to pick Gomi apart with his persistent jabs.  Gomi throws a head kick but misses and takes a jab for his troubles.

UNOFFICIAL SCORING – Florian 10-9

2nd round – Gomi looks fresh but Florian is looking confident.  Gomi is pushing a couple of left jabs and hits with a body shot.  Florian hits again with a right jab to Gomi’s face.  Gomi continues to move around the octagon, not sure what to do.  Florian connects with a couple of punches and Gomi missed with a wild right hand.  Florian is clipped by Gomi but takes no damage.  Gomi hits with a right hand and Florian shakes it off again.  Gomi blocks a right but then takes the next one and is put on his heels.  Florian comes in and has his path changes when Gomi meets him.  Florian is tagged with an uppercut and then a right.  Florian hits with a right hand and another.  Gomi comes in and hits with a body punch.  They take turns missing punches but then Gomi lands one to Florian’s stomach.  Florian misses with a couple of right hands and then back up as Gomi pushes forward.  Florian catches Gomi and tries to throw a knee, but, Gomi back up and is not hit.  Gomi hits with a left and then checks a front kick from Florian.  Florian hits with a jab and Gomi misses with a wild right hand as the vell sounds.

UNOFFICIAL SCORING – Gomi 10-9

3rd round – The final round begins with Florian clinching Gomi.  Gomi pushes away and revert back to the center of the octagon.  Gomi misses with a right jab and then with a left.  His right hook almost connects but Florian moves just in time.  Gomi catches Florian with a left hand but Florian catches Gomi and throws him to the ground.  He lands in Gomi’s guard and starts to work on his body.  Florian misses with an elbow but gets an arm triangle choke position from top.  Gomi scrambles, and then  Florian mounts him and begins to hammer on his head with ground and pound strikes.  Florian gets his back and sinks in the rear naked choke within seconds.

1st round – This heavyweight bout is finally underway after a power outage delays it for a moment.  Nelson eats a couple of leg kicks from Strive and then drops the 6 foot 11 inch Struve with a heavy right hand.  He immediately jumped on top of him and finished him with some ground strikes.  Referee Dan Mirgliatto jumps in and saves Struve from any more damage.

UFC Fight Night 21 Play-by-Play: Nate Quarry (18-3) vs. Jorge Rivera (17-7)

1st round – Mario Yamasaki gets them started as they touch gloves.  Quarry moves forward and misses with a combination and then a leg kick.  Quarry drops a leg kick on Rivera, who then answers with one of his own.  Quarry hits with another leg kick and so does Rivera.  Quarry catches Rivera with a left hand.  Rivera misses with a right but hits with his next two.  Quarry answers with a hard right of his own.  Both fighters show a good solid chin.  Rivera hits with a right hand and Quarry misses with a leg kick.  Rivera moves in and knocks Quarry down with a right hand.  Quarry gets up and puts a hard right on Rivera.  Another right hand by Rivera puts Quarry to his knees.  Quarry, still on his knees, grabs Rivera’s waist and hangs on.  Rivera hammers on Quarry’s head with a series of punches.  They get back up and Rivera connects with several combinations.  Quarry goes down from a hard right and Rivera jumps on top of his dropping punch after punch.  Quarry, somehow survives the flurry and lives to fight the 2nd round.

2nd round - They both come out for the second and Rivera looks refreshed.  Quarry comes in and lands a few punches to Rivera’s face.  Quarry goes down again by a hard left and Rivera jumps right on top.  Rivera lands several bombs from a standing postion until Yamasaki jumps in to rescue him.

1st round – Both lightweights meet in the center of the octagon with Siver going after the legs of Pearson.  Pearson is avoiding the kicks and connects with a hard right.  Pearson clips Siver with a left hook but he hangs in there and continues on.  Pearson hits with an overhand right but is answered with a right by Siver.  Siver connects with a counter left and a leg kick.  Pearson hits with a left hand and SIver misses with a leg kick.  Pearson rushes in and gets clipped with a right hand.  Siver begins to bleed above his eye and gets hammered with punches and kicks.  Pearson lands a solid right that looked to stumble Siver a little bit.  Siver continues on and misses with several punches and looks to be injured.  Pearson gets a body lock and transitions to take Siver’s back.  He has his back and begins to work the side of his head with punches.  Siver rolls over and gets out and works his way back to his feet.  Siver lands some effective punches as the bell sounds.

2nd round – Siver is bloodied up as they meet for the second round.  Pearson hits with a leg kick and follows up with a right hand.  Siver stands his ground in the center of the octagon but takes a kick to the chest.  Pearson connects with a combo and then fights off a takedown.  Siver hits with a spinning back kick to the stomach of Pearson.  Pearson takes the kick and comes back at Siver.  Siver is lunging at Pearson with punches.  Siver gets a takedown and begins to work out of Pearson’s guard.  Siver takes Pearson’s back, but only for a moment.  They break and gets back to a standing position.  Pearson is using his quickeness and Siver misses with several punches.  Both fighters trade right hands and Siver misses with a spinning kick again.  As the time runs out Pearson hits with a right and Siver answers with a left hook.

3rd round – The final round begins with a touch of the gloves.  Pearson lands a low leg kick and Siver anwers with a left hook.  Pearson catches a kick kick from Siver and pushes him back.  Pearson continues to show his accuracy landing now with a leg kick.  Siver lands with a right hand but it is answered with a combination of punches from Pearson.  Siver misses a head kick by a mile and Pearson jabs him four times in the face.  Pearson is clipped with a right hand, so, Siver decides to take it to the floor.  Siver is in Pearson’s full guard but is working hard to get out.  As they stand up, Siver lands a soft knee up the middle.  Pearson gets a nice leg kick through that makes Siver lose his balance.  Pearson takes Siver’s back and throws him to the ground, however, Siver quickly makes it back to a standing position.  Pearson connects with a left and is answered with a leg kick by Siver.  Siver hits with a left but is hit with a combo of Pearson’s punches.  Siver fails on a takedown attempt and clinches with Pearson as the bell sounds.

1st round – St Pierre comes out with a confident look on his face and misses with several strikes.  Hardy survives and throws some of his own.  St Pierre takes the fight to the ground.  He transitioned to the back and begins to pepper his face with punches.  St Pierre controls the 1st round even with a submission attempt at the end.

UNOFFICIAL SCORING – GSP 10-9

2nd round – Hardy looks for a left hook but misses and GSP blocks another jab.  GSP counters a left hand with a right of his own.  GSP quickly takes Hardy to the ground and works to the side control.  Hardy takes several punches to the body and holds on to GSP’s arms.  GSP begins to hammer on Hardy’s body with elbows.  GSP takes his back as Hardy tries to scramble.  GSP gets shook off and Hardy is now on top and in the guard of GSP.  GSP tries to escape and gets up to a standing position.  Hardy has a right hand blocked and answers with a right hand of his own.  Hardy throws a weak leg kick and GSP hits with a punch to the body.  GSP gets the fight to the ground and starts to use elbows to Hardy’s face as the bell sounds.

3rd round – GSP takes Hardy to the ground and begins to ground and pound on Hardy’s body.  Hardy is staying busy from the bottom using elbows.  GSP is beginning to drop heavy punches and elbows.  Hardy hits GSP with an elbow from the bottom.  GSP hits with another heavy elbow and then again with more.  He stands up in Hardy’s guard and begins to hammer down with some punches.  Hardy moves to full guard and gets GSP’s arm.  GSP gets it back and moves to side control where he works a kimura.  He transtions into an armbar but Hardy gets out.  GSP moves to the other arm and goes to work on that one.  Hardy gets up but taken right back to the ground.  GSP moves into side control and is pounding on Hardy with punches and elbows.  GSP takes his back but cant do anything with the position as the bell sounds for the end of the round.

4th round – Hardy throws one punch and then is taken to the ground very easily.  GSP moves to mount and takes his waist where he drags him back to the ground.  GSP still has the waist of Hardy and they stand up together.  They both hit the ground and GSP works to get top position.  Hardy works from the bottom but GSP is hammering on Hardy with punches.  GSP is in side control and starts to hammer on Hardy’s head.  He moves from the head to the body.  GSP now gets Hardy’s arm and twists it until Hardy gets out.  GSP is still in side control and assumes his assault on Hardy’s body and face.  GSP moves to pass guard and transitions to a kneebar but the bell ends the round.

5th round – After a couple of punches from Hardy, GSP takes him to the ground.  GSP moves into side control where he tries to go for an armbar.  GSP moves to take Hardy’s back.  Hardy hits GSP with an elbow from the bottom position.  GSP moves into Hardy’s guard and begins to ground and pound again.  GSP moves to take Hardy’s leg and now arm.  He goes for the kimura finish but Hardy survives.  Hardy is getting pummled with knees now.  GSP hits with some more elbows and punches while on top.  He moves to go for the kimura again but Hardy defends.  Hardy works to get up but cant and GSP stays busy by working submissions.  Hardy gets up and GSP has his back and slams him to the ground.  Hardy hits GSP from the bottom but GSP totally dominates this fight.

1st round – The UFC Interim Heavyweight Championship is underway.  Mir moves in but Carwin grabs him at the waist and presses him against the fence.  Carwin attempts to take it to the canvas but Mir fights against it and stays on his feet.  Carwin hits Mir with several short punches to the face.  Carwin then hits with knees to the thigh of Mir.  Carwin doing his damage with inside punching before the ref breaks it up and seperates them.  Both fighters miss with flurries but Mir then connects with a couple of combos.  Mir pushes Carwin against the fence until Carwin quickly turns the tables.  Carwin tags Mir with a hard left hand and then drops him and begins to hammer on his face.  Mir survives but Carwin hammers with more punches and knocks him out.

1st round – Camoes takes the back of Pellegrino and then transitions to bring the fight to the ground.  Camoes takes Pellegrino’s back and now punches the side of his head.  Camoes continues to pound on his head and gets the arm under his chin but Pellegrino survives and drops to the ground.  Pellegrino transitions to get mount but loses it and is in Camoes’ guard.  Camoes has a triangle submission but cant finish it.  Pellegrino moves to side control and starts to elbow Camoes’ body.  Pellegrino fights off a darce choke and is in Camoes guard again.  Pellegrino lands elbow after elbow from top position.  Pellegrino continues to work elbows from top position.  Pellegrino goes for a kimura but leaves go and finishes the round on top.

UNOFFICIAL SCORING – Pellegrino 10-9

2nd round – Camoes shoots for a takedown but looses it and has to move to guard.  Pellegrino scrambles to his standing position.  Pellegrino gets a takedown and lands in guard where he is going for head control.  Pellegrino starts to hammer on Camoes with elbows and punches.  Camoes scrambles but cant get out of the bottom position.  Pellegrino mounts Camoes and hits Camoes with punches.  Camoes moves to the cage fence and tries to get to his feet.  Pellegrino continues to hammer on his head the entire time.  Camoes gets to his feet but immediately is taken to the ground again.  Pellegrino works to take Camoes’ back and loosens up enough to sink in the rear naked choke for the win.

1st round – Saunders connects with a lef kick and Fitch answers by clinching and moving to the octagon fence.  Saunders blocks knees from Fitch so he turns to working the thighs.  Fitch gets on top of Saunders with a takedown and begins to pepper his body with punches.  Saunders scrambles but Fitch stays active and continues to hammer on Saunders’ body.  Fitch is now alternating body and head punches.  Fitch is working knees to the body of Saunders.  Fitch stands up and throws a punch and then jumps back in Saunders’ guard.  Saunders lands a couple of punches from the bottom position.  Fitch hammers Saunders’ body as he tries to seperate from Fitch.  Fitch stays on Saunders like glue.  Fitch finishes the round with some big elbows to leave no doubt who the winner of the 1st round is.

2nd round – Fitch opens up with a high kick and Saunders puts his head down and cant answer.  Fitch pins Saunders up against the octagon and slams him on his back.  Looking much like the 1st round, Fitch begins to hammer on Saunders’ body.  Fitch is totally controlling the bout.  Fitch continues to pound on Saunders with punches to the face now.  Saunders hasnt thrown any offense for awhile now.  Fitch remains active with his ground but the ref stands it up anyway.  Saunders, looking tired, is tied up again and locked up by Fitch.  Fitch cant get Saunders to the ground but the time runs out for the 2nd round.

3rd round – Final round is underway and Saunders misses and gets locked up by Fitch.  They seperate and Fitch lands a leg kick and then moves in for the tie up.  Saunders looks for a kimura as Fitch goes for the takedown.  Fitch stands up and presses Saunders against the octagon fence.  The referee seperates the fighters and Fitch lands a combination and then a knee.  Saunders has his back against the fence as Fitch sneaks up behind him and takes his back.  Saunders begins the process for a kimura against Fitch.  Fitch is staying active with his striking.  Saunders is taken to the ground after Saunders misses with a leg kick.  Fitch works the body and face of Saunders and pounds on him with brutal ground and pound.  Fitch tries to mount Saunders but he is stopped.  Fitch continues his assault with elbows and punches to the face of Saunders.  Saunders cant get any offense off with the last seconds ticking off the clock.

1st round – Miller and Bocek meet in the center and Bocek hits first with a hard right.  Bocek shoots in and is stuffed by Miller.  Miller has hold of Bocek’s neck as he presses forward.  Bocek gets the takedown but Miller has hold of his head.  Bocek grabs Miller’s head now and the two stand back up.  Miller hits Bocek with a knee to the head.  Bocek has a body lock on Miller and pressing him against the octagon fence.  They seperate and Bocek hits with a couple right hands.  Miller gets the fight to the ground and tries to submit Bocek but he escapes.  Bocek works to pass Miller’s guard.  Miller looks for a kimura from the bottom but Bocek continues to grapple and gets his arm back.  Miller is now on top unloading with punches to the body.  Bocek is cut on the forehead.  Miller is using elbows now from top position but the bell stops the fast paced action.

2nd round – Bocek comes out and gets another takedown.  Miller quickly tries to transition into a submission.  Bocek continues to stay strong and works to side control.  Miller hits with short punches from the bottom position.  Bocek stands up and then jumps back into Miller’s guard.  Bocek is bleeding all over Miller as he looks for the arm triangle submission.  Miller grabs Bocek’s leg but he escapes by spinning out of it.  Bocek gets full mount but cant do much with it.  Miller tries to escape and Bocek takes advantage by taking his back.  Bocek has a body triangle from behind and begins to hammer on Miller’s head.  Bocek is looking for his opportunity to sink in the choke but Miller is surviving.  Bocek continues to pepper Miller’s head with short punches and elbows.  Miller stands up and falls down on his back but Bocek hangs on as the bell sounds.

UNOFFICIAL SCORING – Bocek 10-9

3rd round – Miller comes out in a hurry striking and connecting with punches.  Bocek answers with a left hand.  Bocek shoots but fails and they are both back to their feet.  Both fighters trade strikes from the standing position.  Bocek goes in for the takedown with about 3 minutes remaining.  Miller remains on his feet and grabs hold of Bocek’s neck.  He lets go of the neck and hits with a knee instead.  Miller fails at a takedown and seperates for a moment.  They tie back up against the fence with Bocek going for the takedown, he gets it.  Miller hangs on and gets back up to his feet.  Not for long, as the go the the ground and back to their feet.  Miller has hold of Bocek’s neck and has to let go as Bocek gets the takedown.  Bocek in on top of Miller’s back.  Miller tries to get up and finds a way to take Bocek’s back as the bell sounds.

UFC 111 Prelims Live Play-by-Play: Nate Diaz (11-5) vs. Rory Markham (16-5)

1st round – Diaz comes out in a hurry jabbing Markham’s face.  Markham comes back at Diaz but with heavy shots.  Diaz lands several punches and Markham misses with a head kick.  Diaz hits with some short choppy punches.  Diaz continues to answer Markham’s punch with four of his own.  Diaz is picking Markham apart and drops him to his knee with a knee to the gut.  Diaz takes Markham’s back and tries to sink in a rear naked choke.  Markham fights against the submission but now Diaz focuses on punches to his face.  Diaz moves to flatten Markham out and now uses heavier punches.  The referee steps in after Markham cant answer any shots to his head.

OFFICIAL DECISION – Diaz over Markham via 1st round TKO (2:47)
