UFC 116 Pay-per-View Play-by-Play: Shane Carwin (12-0) vs. Brock Lesnar (4-1)

UFC HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

1st round – Referee Josh Rosenthal is the third man in the octagon for this UFC Heavyweight Title bout.  Lesnar is clipped but Lesnar takes it to the ground.  They both get back up and in front of each other.  Carwin lands a right uppercut and has Lesnar on his heels.  Carwin drops him and hammers away with some heavy bombs.  Lesnar stays alive and holds onto Carwin.  Carwin begins to lands punch after punch.  He covers up and comes in close with Carwin.  Lesnar is beat up and is trying to get into full guard.  Carwin lands some heavy elbows.  Lesnar is bleeding badly and Carwin steps back and then into Lesnar’s half guard.  Lesnar is trying to get up and does.  He is going for a takedown.  Lesnar is very tired as he stands up with Carwin.  Lesnar lands a knee while pressing Carwin against the fence.  Lesnar hits Carwin with a knee to the thigh.  The round ends with Carwin clearly ahead.  (Carwin 10-8)

2nd round – Lesnar and Lesnar are both tired as the 2nd round begins.  Lesnar backs away from Carwin.  Lesnar misses with a right hand.  Lesnar gets the takedown and begins to work from half guard.  Lesnar and Carwin are both tired.  Lesnar is trying to pass Carwin’s guard.  He begins to pound away on Carwin’s body.  Lesnar gets a mount and gets for a choke, but Carwin has his arm in and wont allow the choke to convert.  Lesnar continues to push through it and makes Carwin tap with the triangle choke.

UFC 116 Pay-per-View Play-by-Play: Chris Leben (20-6) vs. Yoshihro Akiyama (13-1, 2 NC)

1st round – Herb Dean is the referee for this co-main event.  Akiyama trips Leben up and puts him on his back.  Leben makes it back up to his feet though.  Leben hits with a low leg kick.  Leben clips Akiyama with a right hand, but doesnt do much damage.  Leben hits with a left hand and then two kicks.  Akiyama hits Leben with a low kick and action is temporarily stopped.  They are back and Akiyama hits with a hard right.  Leben stays in front of him.  Akiyama misses with a spinning back fist but then trips Leben up and puts him on his back.  Akiyama goes to work from Leben’s full guard.  Akiyama puts his fist in Leben’s face and has his arm caught.  Akiyama gets Leben caught in a triangle attempt and mounts Leben.  Akiyama cant finish but stays in dominant position.  Akiyama pops Leben with a couple of shots to the head.  He moves into side mount and flattens Leben out.  Leben gets to his feet and has his head caught in a guillotine.  He gets out of that and into a clinch but hits with a left and right.  Akiyama trips Leben to the floor again before the bell ends the round.  (Akiyama 10-9)

2nd round – Herb Dean gets the 2nd round going.  Leben hits with a partial head kick but falls to the ground.  Leben hurts Akiyama some with a left.  Leben keeps coming forward and is hit with a spinning back fist.  Leben just misses with a left hook.  Leben hits with a left hook and hurts Akiyama.  Both fighters are connecting with some heavy shots.  They clinch and Akiyama takes the fight to the ground.  Akiyama jumps on top and lands some elbows to Leben’s face.  Leben works to get his back to the fence.  Akiyama stays on top and puts pressure on Leben.  Leben gets to his feet and takes some light shots to the face.  Akiyama has Leben against the fence and gets Akiyama in a front choke.  Akiyama presses out of it and steps away and catches Leben with a right hand.  Both are tired and Leben connects with a left hand , but Akiyama clinches and gets Leben in a body lock.  (Akiyama 10-9)

3rd round – Akiyama looks exhausted coming out for the 3rd round.  Leben looks more fresh.  Leben just misses with a left uppercut.  Akiyama cant hold his hands up for very long.  Akiyama gets tagged with a head kick and then an inside leg kick.  Akiyama hits Leben with a hard right that puts him on his back.  Akiyama is working from Leben’s guard and goes for a can opener submission.  Leben transtions to an armbar attempt.  Akiyama spends time trying to get out and finally does.  Akiyama is now working in Leben’s half guard.  He gets mount position and stays there for awhile, but not doing much offense.  Akiyama hits with some light punches.  Leben is staying busy from the bottom, but cant seem to get up.  They continue to land punches from the ground.  Leben gets to full guard.  They continue to land punches.  Leben hits with several elbows from the bottom position.  Akiyama stays on top and in control of Leben.  Akiyama sits up and cant seem to do much offense.  Leben works to a triangle position and somehow makes Akiyama tap out.

UFC 116 Pay-per-View Play-by-Play: Matt Brown (13-8) vs. Chris Lytle (38-17-4)

1st round – Steve Mazzagatti is the referee for this one.  Brown comes out in a hurry, but Lytle quickly puts and end to that.  Brown clinches and tries to land knees.  Lytle gets out and stands in front of Brown.  Brown clinches again and trips Lytle to the ground.  Brown has his back to the fence but stays active with knees to the body.  Lytle is pinning Brown against the fence.  They begin to seperate and Brown lands a knee and head kick.  Lytle presses Brown against the fence and tries to control Brown’s arms.  Brown gets a body lock and a takedown.  Lytle gets up and then is caught in Brown’s darce choke.  The choke looks tight and Lytle is not moving.  He gets out and stands back up with Brown, who looks to of got tired of holding on.  Lytle lands a left hook and then misses with a right hand.  Brown lands a low leg kick.  Lytle blocks a head kick and then clinches with Brown.  Lytle hits with a right to the body.  Lytle hits the deck and over into a kimura attempt as the bell ends the round.  (Brown 10-9)

2nd round – Lytle looks tired and Brown looks fresh as they come out for the 2nd round.  Brown hits with a right hand.  Lytle answers with a right hand to the body of Brown.  He then misses with a hook.  They clinch and both hit with shots.  Lytle hurts Brown with a left hook.  Once they hit the ground, Lytle grabs a guillotine from top position.  He cant get it but moves into a triangle choke position.  He gets Brown’s arm, but Brown moves out of trouble.  Lytle has Brown’s other arm and twists the arm until Mazagatti steps in and stops it.

UFC 116 Pay-per-View Play-by-Play: Stephan Bonnar (14-7) Krzysztof Soszynski (20-10-1)

1st round – Mario Yamasaki is the referee for this rematch.  Soszynski comes out and takes it to Bonnar.  Bonnar has his knee buckled by a low leg kick from Soszynski.  Bonnar gets a takedown and is in Soszynski’s full guard.  Bonnar stands up in Soszynski’s full guard, but cant get much off.  Soszynski is holding onto Bonnar.  Soszynski rolls out and stands up and lands some heavy shots to Bonnar’s face and body.  Soszynski pins Bonnar up against the fence and gets a body lock.  Bonnar gets loose and lands some elbows on Siszynski.  Bonnar lands a couple of rights and a leg kick.  Soszynski keeps coming forward though.  Bonnar misses a spinning back kick and gets tangled up with his opponent.  They clinch again and Bonnar lands the better strikes from the clinch.  Soszynski lands a nice kick to the body.  They clinch and Soszynski is pressing Bonnar against the fence.  Soszynski lands a hard right and then a left putting Bonnar against the fence.  Bonnar stays in it and gets in tight with his opponent.  He misses a high kick but hits with a front kick before the bell ends the round.  (Soszynski 10-9)

2nd round – I think both fighters look fresh coming into the 2nd round.  Soszynski puts his head down and lands some heavy strikes that puts Bonnar on his heels.  They come together and Bonnar lands a knee and some uppercuts .  Soszynski lands a hard right as he backed up and is now in control of this back and forth bout.  Bonnar gets in front of Siszynski and hits with a high kick as well as some heavy punches.  Bonnar hits with another kick but Soszynski clinches.  Bonnar gets Soszynski to the ground where he begins to land some strikes to the body of Soszynski.  Soszynski gets to his feet and Bonnar lands a knee that puts his opponent on his face.  Bonnar begins to lands punch after punch, somwhere around twenty, before Yamasaki steps in and stops it.

UFC 116 Pay-per-View Play-by-Play: George Sotiropoulos (12-2) vs. Kurt Pellegrino (21-4)

1st round – Pellegrino works the head of his opponent, as does Sotiropoulos.  Sotiropoulos connects with a nice right hook.  Pellegrino comes back but doesnt connect with anything significant.  Sotiropoulos drops Pellegrino with a hard right.  He moves and takes his back, but Pellegrino gets to his feet.  Pellegrino immediately lands a hard right hand.  Sotiropoulos comes back with a right of his own and finds the body of his opponent.  Pellegrino gets the takedown, but cant keep Sotiropoulos there.  They square back off and in front of each other.  Both fighters find homes for nice combos.  Pellegrino backs away and misses with a right hook.  Pellegrino gets a takedown and is now in Sotiropoulos’ full guard.  Sotiropoulos connects with an upkick as Pellegrino jumps through it and back into Sotiropoulos’ guard.  (Sotiropoulos 10-9)

2nd round – Pellegrino is first to land, he hits with a right hand.  Sotiropoulos goes for a takedown, and after a struggle, gets it.  He works to pass Pellegrino’s guard.  Pellegrino is focused on keeping Sotiropoulos out of dominant position.  Sotiropoulos moves into Pellegrino’s half guard.  He begins to hammer down on Pellegrino’s face.  Sotiropoulos goes from body to head, landing several elbows to the side of Pellegrino’s head.  Pellegrino scrambles and gets to the octagon fence.  Sotiropoulos catches him and puts him back on his back.  Pellegrino scrambles and gets on one knee before making it to his feet.  Sotiropoulos has a body lock with Pellegrino against the fence.  Sotiropoulos cant get Pellegrino back to the ground just yet.  Pellegrino is working hard to get out of Sotiropoulos’s body lock.  He finally does and seperates from him.  They both connect with nice combinations.  Pellegrino lands a knee before the bell ends the round.  (Sotiropoulos 10-9)

3rd round – The last round is underway.  Sotiropoulos is the busier fighter, he pushes the jab in Pellegrino’s face.  Pellegrino comes back with a right hook that hits on the top of Sotiropoulos’ head.  Sotiropoulos hits with a nice left hook and then fakes a shoot.  Both continue to find a home for the right hands.  Pellegrino now begins to hit more consistently.  Pellegrino gets a takedown and lands in Sotiropoulos’ full guard.  Sotiropoulos stays busy from the bottom by using elbows.  Pellegrino works the body of his lanky opponent.  Sotiropoulos is trying to push out, but Pellegrino wont allow it.  Pellegrino works the body with some hard elbows which land on the face of Sotiropoulos.  Sotiropoulos traps Pellegrino’s arm in his rubber guard.  Pellegrino is trying to muscle out.  he does, and lands some strikes too.  They face off with about 1:00 left.  Sotiropoulos pins Pellegrino up against the octagon fence and hits with a knee to the midsection.  Pellegrino gets out and drops Sotiropoulos with a knee as the bell ends the fight.  (Pellegrino 10-9)

Official Decision – Sotiropoulos over Pellegrino unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

UFC 116 Prelims Live Play-by-Play: Chris Tuchscherer (18-2, 1 NC) vs. Brendan Schaub (6-1)

1st round – Herb Dean has the call as the third man in the octagon.  Schaub is first to land, he hits Tuchscherer with a couple of right hooks.  Tuchscherer is dropped with a hard right hand to the head.  Schaub immediately jumps on top of his opponent and finishes him off with strikes.

UFC 116 Prelims Live Play-by-Play: Seth Petruzelli (14-5) vs. Ricardo Romero (10-1)

1st round – The referee tonight for this first prelims bout is Steve Mazaggatti.  The feeling out process begins.  Romero attempts a takedown but Petruzelli stuffs it.  Petruzelli begins to hammer away and connects with several right hands.  Romero makes it out of the flurry and takes a kick to the head.  Romero goes for a judo takedown, but loses it too.  After resetting back in the center of the octagon, Petruzelli picks apart Romero with some right hands.  Petruzelli misses with a spinning back kick and loses his good position.  Petruzelli gets out of danger and gets top position, where he begins to pop Romero with ground strikes.  Romero scrambles and converts a takedown, and mounts Petruzelli within seconds.  Romero begins to work for a submission from full mount position.  Petruzelli is using a great deal of energy playing defense.  Petruzelli is trying to squirm out underneath Romero, but he catches him and again, goes for an armbar.  Petruzelli scrambles out and lands a hard right that floors Romero.  Petruzelli hammers Romero in the side of the head twice with a two handed hammer fist before the bell ends the round.  (Petruzelli 10-9)

2nd round – Petruzelli looks very tired coming out for the 2nd round.  Romero looks tired as well, but not as tired as his opponent.  Romero approaches Petruzelli, but is caught with a knee from Petruzelli.  Romero bounces back up and in Petruzelli’s face.  Petruzelli defends a takedown and takes the back of Romero.  Petruzelli cant get the submission and is now in full guard.  Romero begins to work the body of Petruzelli.  Romero is cut and bleeding all over Petruzelli.  Petruzelli slaps a triangle choke on Romero, but cant get it.  Romero now transitions into dominant position and has Petruzelli’s arm in trouble.  Romero gets Petruzelli’s arm and turns it until Petruzelli submits.
