Roger Bowling adds another victory, Chris Bennett’s last ammy fight, Fedor vs. Werdum and plenty more

MMA Update – 03-02-2010

Andrei Arlovski- The Pit Bull announced via a mass email that he has signed a multi-fight deal and will face Antonio “Big Foot” Silva in May.

Chris Bennett- The Samurai finished his amateur career with a victory over Muhammed Abdullah at 170lbs.  Bennett weighed in at 161 for the fight but was able to overcome the strength differential and finish the fight with a guillotine choke.  Bennett will make his pro debut in April.

Fedor- Sources have confirmed that Fedor will battle Fabricio Werdum in May.  Werdum is a world class jiu-jitsu practitioner but will not be able to handle the great Fedor.  The winner of Fedor-Werdum will likely get the winner of Overeem-Rogers.

Jon Fitch- The 21-3 welterweight recently spoke of his desire to get back in the cage with GSP.  Fitch believes he has improved to the point that he is currently a better fighter than GSP.  Jon also believes that Dan Hardy’s title shot is premature and more qualified fighters were passed over.

MMA Rankings- PFF is the #1 source for UFC Rankings and MMA Pound for Pound Rankings.  Check out the rankings to see where your favorite fighters stack up.

Roger Bowling- Welterweight prospect Roger Bowling was victorious again as he defeated the very tough Jerrod Appenzeller.  With the victory Bowling moved to 7-0.  Roger was a featured interview on Inside MMA.

Alistair Overeem- The Dutchmen announced via his twitter account that he will face Brett Rogers in May.  The bout will likely be a non-title fight.  This will be a battle between two behemoths.  Overeem is a freak athlete and impressive striker but will have his hands full with the striking ability of Rogers.  This should be a great bout.

Strikeforce- The organization shuffled up cards and now has two strong events over April and May.  The April 17 Strikeforce card on CBS will feature Henderson vs. Shields for the Middleweight Title.  The May 15 Strikeforce fight card will be loaded with heavyweight battles as Fedor will face Werdum, Arlovski vs. Silva and Overeem vs. Rogers.  If the fight cards do not suffer any casualties Strikeforce should make a major impact in front of a national audience.

MMA fans will have a good run from March through May as both Strikeforce and the UFC have multiple events.  For coverage of all events with both previews and recaps visit www.profighting-fans.com

UFC 110 Weigh-in Results

Friday, February 19th, 2010

The weigh-ins for UFC 110 took place in Sydney, Australia this evening (Saturday afternoon in Australia) for an event which features a stacked card of televised fights. With storylines of a the old guard versus the new guard (Nogueira vs Velasquez) and the untested youngsters versus the experienced veterans (Bader vs Jardin and Sotiropoulos vs Stevenson), it’s hard to argue with these fights. But add to it the Michael Bisping vs Wanderlei Silva fight and Mirko Crop Cop on the main card and the sellout Austrailian crowd will be treated to some of the UFC’s finest.

Back to the weigh-ins, nothing crazy happened save Wanderlei Silva charging Michael Bisping causing a little drama as all of the fighters made weight. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira weighed in at 233.2 lbs with his UFC 110 main event opponent, Cain Velasquez, weighing in at 242 pounds. Michael Bisping and Wanderlei Silva both weighed in at 184.8 lbs, George Sotiropoulos and Joe Stevenson both at 154 lbs, Ryan Bader and Keith Jardine both 204.6 lbs and Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic 233.2 with Anthony Perosh at 215.6 to round out the main card fighters.

ProFighting-fans.com will feature complete UFC 110 fight results on Saturday night with Senior Staff Writer Nick Russell providing a round by round blog of the main fight card bouts. Meanwhile, Editor-in-Chief Scott Dryden will be reporting live results from the MMA Big Show event in Florence, Indiana, just West of Cincinnati, on our live MMA news blog.

Couture vs. Franklin, PFF Coverage of UFC 110 & MMA Big Show and UFC 110 Predictions

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

MMA Update – February 18th 2010

Couture vs. Franklin- I have confirmed with sources close to Franklin’s camp that there are discussions of Couture vs. Franklin.  The fight could happen in either June or August depending on a few things on Couture’s end.  Many outlets are reporting this to be a done deal but as of now that is not the case.  Stay tuned to www.profighting-fans.com for more information as it becomes available.

Weekend MMA - ProFighting-fans.com has complete coverage of UFC 110 which includes predictions and a live blog of the UFC 110 results this weekend.  In addition, there are features on Cain Velasquez, Minotauro Nogueira, Michael Bisping and Wanderlei Silva currently on the site.  PFF will also provide a live blog from MMA Big Show in Indiana in a regional event that features Dave Hess vs. Jake O’Brien and Roger Bowling vs. Jerrod Appenzeller.  The event will be Roger Bowling’s last fight before he competes in Strikeforce.

Anderson Silva- The Spider had his tentacles set on The Phenom Vitor Belfort at UFC 112 but the much anticipated bout will have to wait.  Belfort was a scratched from the card due to a shoulder injury.  Instead of the explosive Belfort, Silva will instead face the elite grappling of Demian Maia.  Maia brings a different challenge but there is plenty of time for Silva to prepare as the event doesn’t take place until April 10th.

UFC 110- Cain Velasquez vs. Minotauro Nogueira and Michael Bisping vs. Wanderlei Silva are excellent co main events and our UFC 110 picks & predictions are live.  Each fight has a lot on the line for each of the four combatants.  For Velasquez it would continue his fast track to a title shot, for Nog, another trip to the top and a place in line at the title shot table.  Although Bisping bounced back from his devastating loss to Dan Henderson with an impressive victory over Denis Kang, many are still doubting the cocky Englishman.  There are few fighters on the planet who have an 18-2 record but are searching for respect.  With a victory over Wand, Bisping will be back in the title hunt.  For Wanderlei, a loss may be the end of the road in the UFC for the legendary striker.  With a victory, Wand will still get high level fights as he still sells tickets.  The event is very good top to bottom as it also includes Stevenson vs. Sotiropoulos, Jardine vs. Bader and Cro Cop vs. Rothwell. UFC 110 takes place on February 20th on PPV.

Pro Fighting Fans confirms Mitrione vs Kimbo match-up

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Pro Fighting Fans Editor-in-Chief Scott Dryden confirmed today that Matt Mitrione will indeed face Kimbo Slice in a upcoming UFC event.  Mitrione, a former NFL player, found fame on Season 10 of The Ultimate Fighter as his antics drew the ire of his opponents and teammates alike.  Although few gave him much respect, Mitrione made it to the semifinals where he lost to James McSweeney.  Nicknamed “meat head” during the season by TUF 10 coach Rashad Evans, Mitrione angered Marcus Jones with his nonchalant attitude and decisive victory over Scott Junk.  He faced the intense Jones at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale where he gained an impressive victory via KO due to strikes.  If Mitrione can beat the famous street fighter Kimbo Slice, the sky is the limit.
