Florian, Griffin headed to UFC’s new featherweight division

February 8th, 2011

The addition of the featherweight & bantamweight divisions to the UFC are starting to open up more options for the loaded 155 Lightweight Division. Now that the 145 lb fighters are members of the UFC the featherweight division is getting deeper and deeper. In the past week Tyson Griffin and Kenny Florian have both announced intentions to compete at 145 lbs in 2011 adding significant depth to the division that is headed by UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo. Aldo will face his first UFC title defense on the UFC 129 fight card when he faces veteran Mark Hominick after two successful title defenses of his WEC belt.

The addition of successful fighters like Florian & Griffin is a tremendous boost to the depth of the 135 lb weight class and shakes up the UFC Featherweight Rankings significantly. In our latest rankings, 5 of the 10 fighters listed had previous UFC experience as Florian and Griffin both immediately vault into the Top 10 based on their impressive resumes.
