1st round – Big John McCarthy is the thrid man in the cage. Some feeling out between the two is followed by a takedown attempt by Healy. After some light sparring, the fight does go to the floor and Healy takes top position. Thomson attempts a triangle, but cant get it locked in. Thomson works his way back to his feet, but the whole time Healy has a body lock. As Thomson gets up, Healy immediatley takes him down. Thomson goes for a heel hook, but cant get it and makes it back to his feet again. They lock up after a few moments on their feet. The fight soon finds its way back to the floor, on the floor they are tangles up. The bell rings shortly after. Not much to distinguish a round winner. (Healy 10-9)
2nd round – Thomson lands a nice combination, but Healy works through the punches and gets it to the floor. Healy jumps on top of Thomson’s back and tries to get his hooks in. Thomson is struggling to get to his feet, but Healy is doing his best to keep his weight on him and keep him on the ground. Healy works his way back on his back and starts to wear him down with some short punches. Thomson gets to half guard, but Healy remains on top and works his ground and pound. Healy looks quite effective. Thomson gets to full guard, however only for a few seconds. Healy lands several shots from the ground. Thomson gets up, but is taken back down during his scramble. Healy is working a heel hook, but cant convert. Healy gives up on the submission and gets back into Thomson’s full guard. Thomson works his way into an armbar attempt, and almost finishes it. Healy, somehow, works his way out and back on top, but takes an upkick for his efforts. As the time runs out, Healy tags Thomson with several ground strikes. (Healy 10-9)
3rd round – Big John gets them together for the final round. They come out striking. Healy shoots in, but Thomson avoids the takedown attempt. Thomson gets back up and pops Healy twice with jabs. Thomson lands a nice front kick, but allows himself to get tied up. They stay in the clinch for only seconds, as Thomson pushes out. Thomson is landing efficiently with his punches. Healy clinches and puts Thomson against the cage. Immediatly, Healy goes for some dirty boxing. They seperate and Healy takes a shot from Thomson. Healy doesnt like the strikes, so he grabs Thomson and drives him into the ground. Somehow, Thomson gets on top and holds his position for a few moments. Thomson works his way around and takes Healy’s waist . As Healy tries to get up, Thomson is able to get his arm under Healy’s chin. Thomson is squeezing as hard as he can and gets the tap from Healy with just seconds remaining. A good solid fight to start the night’s television portion.
