Strikeforce/M1 Global “Fedor vs. Rogers” live play-by-play and results

Fight #1: Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva (13-1) vs. Fabricio Werdum (12-4-1) - Heavyweight

1st round - Werdum comes out of the blue corner and is first to engage, however missing on a right hand.  Silva hits on a low leg kick.  A left hand connects but it is answered by Silva.  Silva drops Werdum to his back and tries to finish it with ground and pound.  Werdum grabs a leg and makes it back to his feet.  Werdum is trying to keep a safe distance from Silva.  They clinch in the center but Silva throws Werdum to the ground then waits for him to rise.  A right hand connects by Werdum but doesnt faze Silva, who is now back against the cage.  Werdum hits Silva square in the face but cant hurt the ATT fighter.  Silva clinches and pushes Werdum to the fence.  A Silva elbow puts Werdum to the ground but Silva will not engage there.  PFF scores this round 10-9 for Silva

2nd round – Werdum goes to the mat again courtesy of a Silva strike.  Silva is hesitant to go to the ground with Werdum, instead plays with him from top position.  Werdum calls him to the mat and Silva obliges.  Werdum immediatly takes top position and works to pass his guard.  Silva escapes with a slick escape.  Werdum looks to be the more tired of the two fighters as they move around the cage.  Silva clinches with Werdum against the cage fence.  Werdum transitions taking dominant position putting Silva’s back against the fence.  The ref breaks them apart and centers them in the cage.  Silva again gets underhooks and moves to the fence.  Werdum gets Silva to the mat and is now in half guard of Silva.  Werdum is a master on the ground.  He gets to side control with 40 seconds.  Werdum is going for the kneebar.  Silva is skilled as well on the ground and defends the submission attempt.  PFF gives this tight round to Werdum 10-9

3rd round – The third and final round is underway when Werdum hits a low leg kick.  He follows it with a couple more.  They clinch once again and Werdum pushes Silva to the fence.  Silva breaks free and misses with an elbow.  Werdum keeps Silva at bay with the low leg kicks.  Werdum gets Silva to the mat and takes his back.  Werdum begins to pepper Silva’s head with punches.  Werdum cant get his hooks in and the fight gets back to the feet.  Silva reverses and puts Werdum against the fence.  Silva hit with an uppercut and a knee.  Werdum engages and goes for the double leg takedown.  Werdum clinches but cant hurt Silva.  Silva pushes Werdum’s head to the ground.  Silva gets tagged again with a weak right hook.  Werdum hits with a knee then takes the fight to the ground and begins with punches to Silva’s head.  Werdum gets in Silva’s half guard and works to pass.  He gets into dominant position and begins to hammer on Silva’s face.  Silva cant get back up to his feet.  PFF gives the final round to Werdum 10-9

Fight #2: Gegard Mousasi (26-2-1) vs. “The African Assassin” Sokoudjou (7-4) – Light Heavyweight

1st round – The much anticipated 205 pound bout is underway.  Mousasi hits with a straight left.  Sokoudjou hits with a low leg kick, set up with a right hand.  A left hook to the body scores by Sokoudjou.  Mousasi is stalking his opponent.  Mousasi hits with a low leg kick and then gets a little too low.  A left hook misses by Mousasi.  Sokoudjou hits with another low leg kick.   Sokoudjou takes this fight to the ground and is on top of Mousasi.  Mousasi reverses position as Sokoudjou tries for the guillotine.  They get back to their feet but Sokoudjou quickly trips Mousasi back up and goes for the guillotine.  Mousasi breaks free and brings Sokoudjou to the mat.  Sokoudjou gets back to his feet and takes an upkick.  Mousasi gets on top of Sokoudjou for the last 10 seconds.  PFF scores this round 10-9 Sokoudjou

2nd round – The 2nd of 3 rounds is underway and the two fighters clinch right away.  Sokoudjou takes a knee up the middle from Mousasi.  Mousasi is controlling the waist of Sokoudjou and connecting with body shots.  An uppercut connects by Mousasi but Sokoudjou answers with a hook and survives.  As the two grapple for position, Sokoudjou trips Mousasi up and is now on top in his half guard.  Mousasi is active from his back and now going for the kimura.  Sokoudjou escapes but ends up on his back.  Mousasi begins to ground and pound.  Sokoudjou covers up and takes body shots.  Mousasi finishes the fight and wins his 13th in a row with tantalizing ground and pound attack.

Fight #3: Jason “Mayhem” Miller (22-6-1, 1 NC) vs. Jake Shields (23-4-1) - Middleweight Championship

1st round – The Middleweight Title Bout is underway as Big John McCarthy starts them.  Shields takes Miller down right away.  Shields begins to work to try and pass Miller’s guard.  Shields is mounting Miller and starts to pound on his head.  Shields has Miller in bad position, however Miller escapes to his feet and delivers a knee to the body of Shields.  Miller takes his time with his back to the cage, while Shields is hitting the body of Miller.  Miller gets to his feet and picks Shields up and throws him to the ground.  Miller is now in Shields full guard.  Miller stands up and connects on a knee.  Miller takes the back of Shields and finally gets him to the mat, where he works his ground and pound for the last 20 seconds.  PFF scores this round for Shields 10-9, although it could go either way

2nd round – Shields pushes Miller up against the cage fence and takes some knees for his troubles.  Miller takes Shields back and drags him to the canvas.  Shields reverses and now has control of Miller’s waist.  Shields works to mount Miller and begins to pop Miller with punches.  Shields now moves to take the back of Miller and continues to pick Miller apart with his punches.  Miller scrambles out of immediate danger, however Shields keeps dominant position.  Shields moves to side control and then to half guard.  Miller is put up against the fence.  Shields starts to take the back of Miller again and tries to lock in the rear naked choke.  Miller transitions out of trouble and makes it to his feet.  Miller is trying to grab a leg of Shields while attempting to take his back.  PFF scores this round 10-9 Shields, again it could have easily gone the other way

3rd round – Miller slams Shields to the canvas and tries to lock in the guillotine.  Shields is too skilled for that and transitions into a crucifix position.  Miller looks to be relaxed from a downed position.  Shields works into full mount and utilizing his elbows at the same time.  Shields keeps the mount and then trasitions to take Miller’s back.  Shields is popping Miller’s head at will.  Shields maintains his dominant position while Miller reverses into a standing postion.  He hits with a spinning back fist but doesnt faze Shields.  Shields doesnt want to engage Miller in a stand-up war.  Bug John calls in the trainer to re-tape Miller’s gloves.  They return to the same position, where Shields drops Miller with a takedown.  Miller tries to use the fence to get back to his feet.  Shields is trying half-heartidly for a guillotine attempt.  They both get back to their feet, only momentarily as Miller is taken to the floor again.  Miller moves to take Shields back and works for a rear naked choke.  Miller locks in the rear naked choke but Shields is saved with the sound of the bell.  PFF scores this action-packed round 10-9 for Miller

4th round – Miller looks fresh but is taken to the ground once again only 30 seconds in.  Miller is safe with his back to the fence.  Shields is pinning Miller against the fence so he cant make it back to his feet.  Miller is going for the guillotine choke.  Shields stays busy by working the body of Miller.  Miller almost gets to his feet before Shields brings him back down.  McCarthy warns the two for inactivity.  And he gets them back to theri feet.  Miller hits with kicks and knees before Shields gets it back to the canvas.  Shields is in side control but not aggressive with his attack.  Miller is patient when trying to get back up.  Shields is trying to take Miller’s back and slip the rear naked choke in.  Miller almost escapes and does roll out.  Shields is dominant and keeps Miller on his back as the round ends.  PFD scores this one 10-9 in a decisive Shields round

5th round – The championship round begins with Shields hitting with a right hand.  Shields rushes in and clinches with Miller.  Shields tries for a standing guillotine choke but settles for a takedown.  Miller works back to his feet with Shields still on his back.  Shields tries to drag Miller to the mat but Miller defends well.  He finally gets it to the canvas and into side control.  Miller is being dominated as far as the positioning of the later rounds.  Shields takes his back and peppers his face with punches.  Miller scrambles to get out but cant.  Shields has Miller in a body triangle.  Miller works his feet and reverses to go for a guillotine.  Shields gets out and into side control.  Miller is trying for a one-handed guillotine.  Miller gets back to his feet and hits with a leg kick as the bell sounds.  PFF scores it 10-9 Shields

Fight #4: Fedor Emelinenko (30-1, 1 NC) vs. Brett “The Grim” Rogers (10-0) – Heavyweight Championship

1st round – Finally its time.  Fedor misses on two hooks.  Rogers keeps a safe distance away from Fedor, who takes him down.  Rogers gets back up and puts Fedor against the fence.  Fedor is bleeding badly.  Rogers starts to pepper Fedor with small punches while against the fence.  Fedor hit swith a left hand and tries to mount.  Rogers pulls him close to his body but Fedor manages half guard.  Fedor works to take Rogers arm but Rogers gets his arm back.  Rogers starts to pound on his face.  Fedor jumps back into Rogers guard.  Fedoris attempting a side choke on Rogers, who pulls Fedor close and starts to hit with hooks from his back.  Fedor is back to his feet and tries to jump and punch at the same time.  He misses and gets to the 2nd round.  PFF scores this round 10-9 for Fedor

2nd round – Fedor is still bleeding but looks refreshed.  Rogers missed on a knee as the two fighters clinch.  Fedor starts to throw wildly but Rogers blocks all.  Fedor, with his back against the wall, takes a knee to the stomach.  They break apart as Fedor drops Rogers with a well-timed right hand.  Rogers covers up as he gets tagged with ground and pound.
