The month of August looked to be a great month with Affliction, Sengoku, Strikeforce & the WEC holding events and the UFC holding two events, and despite Affliction’s demise the month will continue to hold fantastic MMA events with UFC 101 and WEC 42 to be held this coming weekend. UFC 101 will be held on Saturday night in Philadelphia featuring two main event-caliber fights. First, UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva will move up to Light Heavyweight (205 lbs) to face former Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin. That fight will be followed by the UFC 101 main event as Lightweight Champion BJ Penn will defend his belt against top contender Kenny Florian. On Sunday night World Extreme Cagefighting will hold WEC 42 which will feature WEC Bantamweight Champion Miguel Angel Torres against top Bantamweight contender Brian Bowles. Like Anderson Silva, Torres is considered on of the top pound for pound MMA fighters in the world as he looks to defend his belt for the 4th time. WEC 42 also features rising stars Joseph Benavidez against Dominick Cruz. The event will televise on Versus on Sunday night at 9 pm ET and the WEC 42 results will be posted on our site as soon as the fights end on Sunday night.
