Semmy Schilt is one of only two men in the history of K-1 to win four World Grand Prix titles. He is in elite company with the other man being the legendary “Mr.Perfect” Ernesto Hoost. Schilt’s championship wins also consist of three consecutive titles. He captured the K-1 World Grand Prix Championships in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009. Schilt also has competed in Mixed Martial Arts in PRIDE, PANCRASE, UFC and K-1 HERO’s.

Schilt has made his presence felt in kickboxing after success in K-1. Schilt’s first time in the Grand Prix tournament final was 2005. He defeated the likes of Ray Sefo, Remy Bonjasky and Glaube Feitosa to capture that crown. The next two years he cleaned house picking up his three straight titles. In 2006, he bested JLB, Ernesto Hoost and Peter Aerts. In 2007 he defeated Feitosa, JLB and Aerts once more. Finally, in 2008 he was defeated by Peter Aerts at the Final 16. Schilt picked up a win over up and comer Hesdy Gerges at the K-1 Yokohama event this year but was severely beaten by Badr Hari at the May It’s Showtime a few months later. Schilt’s wins over Alexei Ignashov at Ultimate Glory and Daniel Ghita at this year’s Final 16 were a mark for better things to come. Schilt went on to win the 2009 Grand Prix Final in a record time of 5 minutes 52 seconds disposing of JLB and Remy Bonjasky plus getting revenge on Badr Hari.

In his MMA career, Schilt had many fights under the PANCRASE banner. Wins there included Guy Mezger, Masakatsu Funaki, Ikuhusa Minowa and Yuki Kondo. Schilt had two fights in the UFC. At UFC 31 he defeated Pete Williams by TKO but lost at UFC 32 to Josh Barnett via armbar. Schilt did manage to go the distance with MMA king Fedor Emelianenko at PRIDE 21. Some other PRIDE appearances consisted of wins over Yoshihiro Takayama, Masaaki Satake, Akira Shoji and Gan McGee.. All by stoppages. His losses in PRIDE were all to the top dogs – Fedor, Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera and Sergei Kharitonov. Schilt’s last MMA rules fight came nearly one year ago at 2008 K-1 Dynamite, a triangle victory over Mighty Mo.
