Affliction
Affliction held their first promotion on July 19th, 2008, and despite consistent rumors of an collapse, the promotion scheduled a 3rd event, Affliction: Trilogy to be held on August 1, 2009. The Affliction Trilogy event featured the #1 pound for pound man in MMA, Fedor Emelianenko, against highly-ranked heavyweight Josh Barnett. However, after Barnett was not allowed to compete in California after testing positive for steroids, it sent the entire MMA promotion into a downward spiral. Now it appears that Affliction as an MMA promotion is done, despite having been backed financially by big-name businessmen Donald Trump and Mark Cuban. In addition to Mixed Martial Arts events, Affliction also has an incredibly successful line of clothing & merchandise with Affliction Entertainment acting as a branch of the Affliction clothing company. How things will play out for Affliction in the future is anyone's guess, but expect to see Affliction clothing as a sponosor in the UFC in the near future.
