Fighter Profile: Chris Lozano
Height: 6’1” Weight: 170 MMA Gym: Strong Style Fight Team
Chris "The Assassin" Lozano is a product of the Strong Style Fight Team in Independence, Ohio who previously fought as a Middleweight and now fights as a Welterweight for the NAAFS in the Cleveland, OH area. Lozano took the successful MMA scene of Northeast, Ohio by storm making his pro debut on Ohio's biggest stage at the NAAFS: Fight Nite in the Flats 5 in June 2009 and promptly KOed Marcus Kuck in just 37 seconds. Lozano proceeded to KO his next 3 opponents en route to a 4-0 record with 4 KO victories and the NAAFS Middleweight belt. After controversy ensued between Lozano's gym, Strong Style, and rival gym GriffonRawl, Lozano was signed to fight UFC veteran Jason Dent, the head instructor at GriffonRawl MMA Academy. The two chose to fight at 170 pounds and Lozano told ProFighting-fans.com that he planned to make the cut to 170 permanently in a May 2010 interview. The two squared off at NAAFS: Fight Nite in the Flats 6 in June 2010 where Lozano broke Dent's arm with a kick in the 1st round and took home a TKO victory after the doctor stopped the fight after 4 rounds. With the win over Dent under his belt, Lozano was signed by Bellator and made his debut against UFC veteran Yoshiyuki Yoshida. Coming off a 2-3 stint with the UFC, Yoshida vs. Lozano was billed as a Bellator Welterweight Tournament qualifier with the winner getting a spot in Bellator's 2011 tournament of 170 pound fighters. Lozano was impressive in defeating Yoshida with relative ease TKO at Bellator 31 on September 30, 2010. With the win over Yoshida placing Lozano in the 2011 Bellator Welterweight Tournament, the Cleveland product will face former Bellator 170 pound champion Lyman Good in the main event at Bellator 35 on March 5, 2011.
