Demian Maia, one of the most talented fighters in the UFC Middleweight division and a top grappler in MMA, competes successfully at the highest level in Abu Dhabi. Displaying his grappling prowess, in 2007, Maia won the 77-87 Kg division.

Noted for his stellar grappling game, Maia has now begun work on his striking with former PRIDE Middleweight Champion, Wanderlei Silva.

In 2001, Maia’s mixed martial arts career began reeling off six straight wins including Fabio “Negao” Nascimento. Maia inked a contract with the UFC and continues his winning ways steamrolling through his first five opponents. Beginning with a first round submission over Ryan Jensen, he next brutally triangled Ed Herman from mount position. At UFC 87, Maia engaged in a great grappling war against Jason MacDonald ending with a choke victory for Maia. Quick work was made of Nate Quarry and Chael Sonnen both submitting in under three minutes.

Maia’s biggest test, a 21 second knockout by Middleweight contender Nate Marquardt came during UFC 102. Maia now looks to get back into title contention.
