Gray Maynard may be one of the only fighters in the UFC to truly live up to his nickname, "The Bully." Gray is a wrestling prodigy from Lakewood's St. Edwards High School in the Cleveland, Ohio area where he compiled a 135-16 record. In 1997 Maynard was Ohio's State Runner-up at 140 pounds and in 1998 he won the State Title at 152 pounds. Maynard then went on to wrestle at Michigan State alongside where he was teammates with former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans.

Maynard entered the MMA Scene while training jiu jitsu in Las Vegas when BJ Penn learned of Maynard's skill and brought him to Hawaii to train with. Gray was first seen publicly on The Ultimate Fighter Season 5, but was well known for honing the skills of top level MMA athletes for upcoming fights; most notably BJ Penn. He once held claim to the second fastest knockout in UFC history when he defeated lightweight Joe Veres @ UFC Fight Night 11 in just 9 seconds. Gray currently trains and teaches with legend Randy Couture at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas, NV, and holds notable wins over Roger Huerta, Nate Diaz, Jim Miller and Frankie Edgar.
