Josh Thomson is a well-known lightweight mixed martial arts fighter who has been competing professionally for eight years, fighting for notable promotions such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship and Strikeforce. Thomson is currently the reigning Strikeforce Lightweight Champion, having defeated former training partner and friend Gilbert Melendez in a five-round decision in 2008.
While Thomson is a well-rounded fighter with a significant base in wrestling, his main strength is considered to be his striking. Training with the highly respected middleweight kick boxer Cung Le, Thomson packs power and precision in his punches and kicks. The San Jose, California native has not been defeated since a 2006 Unanimous Decision loss to current UFC lightweight Clay Guida.
