Martin “Hitman” Kampmann is a Dutch mixed martial artist fighter that is known for his striking ability. His background is in Muay-Thai and as a shoot fighter. He owns and operates his own gym in Denmark but currently lives in Las Vegas and trains at XTreme Couture.

Kampmann began his MMA career on the fast track by winning 9 of his first 10 bouts. Many of the bouts took place overseas in small organizations such as VF, XFC and CWFC. It was in one of his early fights that he had one of his biggest wins of his career. He knocked off Xavier Foupa-Pokam, winning by way of DQ in an April 2004 fight.

In his next fight after the big win over Foupa-Pokam, Kampmann suffered one of his two career losses. He was defeated by Andrei Semenov in an October 2004 fight by way of a cut that was opened on his face.

After his first career loss he fought back winning his next five fights. The UFC was the “Hitman” next step after the organization he was fighting in, the WFA was bought out by the UFC. His UFC debut proved to be an easy one. He over matched Crafton Wallace and finished him with a rear naked choke in the first round.

After defeating Wallace, Kampmann went on to win 3 in a row against very talented UFC fighters. He earned a unanimous decision victory over very talented Thales Leites at the Ultimate Fighter 4 finale. He then finished his next two opponents in Drew McFedries and Jorge Rivera with submissions.

He was inching closer to a title fight in the Middleweight division when that idea was erased in his next fight. Nate Marquardt quickly and soundly put Kampmann away with a first round TKO win at UFC 88 in September of 2008. The loss to Marquardt served many purposes; one being a move was needed and eventually made to the welterweight division.

In his last fight, his first as a welterweight, Kampmann quickly defeated his opponent, Alexandre Barros at UFC 93 in January of 2009. Kampmann used his striking combinations to finish Barros by TKO in the 2nd round.

Kampmann now faces his toughest challenge to date in welcoming Carlos Condit to the UFC. Both fighters are considered factors in a very crowded division. On April 1, 2009 at UFC Fight Night 18, Kampmann will find out whether he will take a significant step and shed the title of young and talented and become a legitimate contender. With a win over Condit he certainly will do that.
