Fighter Profile: Nate Marquardt
Hometown: Denver, Colorado Height: 6’0 Weight: 185 lbs. Age: 30 Current Organization: UFC Professional Record: 29-8-2
Nate Marquardt, a top middleweight, is a Brazilian Ju Jitsu black belt under Ricardo Murgel. His striking game has vastly improved since his first days as a mixed martial artist. Nate trains with one of the best camps in all of MMA at Jackson's Academy with the likes of; George St. Pierre, Rashad Evans and Keith Jardine. All this alongside the great coaching of Mike Winkeljohn and Greg Jackson. Nate’s first big wins were overseas in PANCRASE where he became the Middleweight King. His wins there included Kazuo Misaki, Yuji Hoshino, Kiuma Kunioku and current king Izuru Takeuchi. After a campaign in Japan, Nate joined the UFC. Winning his first four fights earned a UFC Middleweight title shot against Anderson Silva at UFC 73, but he lost by TKO. Claiming ‘the version of him’ that fought Silva is gone, Nate seems to be a different fighter these days and would like another shot at the title. The main difference now is Nate has become a very competent striker. Post UFC 73, Nate went 4-1 with a controversial loss against Thales Leites. He was deducted two points losing a split decision. Nate ran striking clinics against Wilson Gouveia and Martin Kampmann to finish with TKO‘s. Nate’s most recent fight at UFC 102 was a battle with fellow contender, Demian Maia. Nate worked quickly knocking Maia out in less than 30 seconds. Now, he looks to be at the fore front of the title picture.
