MMA Fighter Profile: Roger Bowling
Division: Welterweight (170 pounds) Gym: Team Vision Organization: Strikeforce Professional Record: 7-0
"Relentless" Roger Bowling made his pro debut in June of 2007 with a victory over Chris Runge. Shortly thereafter, and against the advice of many, in only his 3rd professional fight, Bowling faced the undefeated Shamar Bailey for the RFL Welterweight Title. Few gave Bowling a chance as Bailey was more experienced with a solid wrestling background. Bowling made quick work of Bailey knocking him out in the 1st round. Since that victory Roger has competed for MMA Big Show, a Cincinnati based promotion, where he has gone 3-0 which included a victory a devastating knockout victory over IFL veteran Seth Baczynski in only 9 seconds at MMA Big Show Retribution in March 2009. However, Bowling suffered a devastating injury to his left arm while working. The injury required surgery and prevented Bowling from competing in the much anticipated match-up against War Machine. Following the event, War Machine called out Bowling and threw various insults his way. In Bowling’s 1st fight back on July 25, 2009 he made quick work of Devon Plaisance but broke his hand in the process. Bowling once again had to back out a fight scheduled with War Machine. This of course fueled the fire of the loose-lipped War Machine and the verbal battle raged on. War Machine then stated he wouldn’t fight Bowling and threw even more derogatory remarks towards the Cincinnati native. Bowling responded with a verbal barrage of his own which can be found on YouTube. However, War Machine recently lost to David Mitchell on October 8, 2009 via a Unanimous Decision while undefeated Roger Bowling won his final MMA Big Show fight on February 20, 2010 and has recently signed with Strikeforce and is looking to compete in mid 2010.
Upcoming for Roger Bowling:It was thought that Bowling could face Shamar Bailey in a rematch or War Machine, but it is highly unlikely Strikeforce will sign War Machine following his loss so the grudge match will have to wait. The sky’s the limit for the undefeated Bowling who is well-versed in all disciplines and is a great athlete to boot. Keep an eye on this prospect.
