Yoshida is a Japanese mixed martial artist currently competing in the UFC. He has a background in Judo and is a student of former Shooto fighter Noburu Asahi. Yoshida was the winner of Cage Force 5 welterweight tournament in which he defeated Pancrase champion Katsuya Inoue by Knockout, Matt Cain via TKO and former Shooto champion Akira Kikuchi via TKO, earning him a place in the finals against UK favorite Dan Hardy. During the fight, Hardy landed an illegal shot to the groin prompting the referee to step in and award Yoshida the victory via DQ. Yoshida was then called for his UFC debut against TUF 6 alumni War Machine (formerly known as Jon Koppenhaver). Yoshida defeated War Machine via Anaconda choke in the first round at UFC 84. He was then set to face the dangerous Karo Parisyan at UFC 88 but the fight was called off due to an injury sustained by Parisyan. He was next called in to action to face top welterweight contender Josh Koscheck at UFC: Fight for the Troops. Yoshida suffered a devastating KO and was stretchered out of the octagon for precautionary reasons. He bounced back with a submission victory over Brandon Wolff at UFC 98. Yoshida will next fight at UFC 104 against up-and-comer Anthony “Rumble” Johnson.
