World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) NewsWorld Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) is a promotion of American Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) which currently competes in three weightclasses. The WEC is owned by Zuffa, the parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), and has both current and past events televised on the cable station Versus. The WEC uses the same rules as the UFC and fights are held in a similar, but smaller octagon cage.

The WEC was started in 2001 and was acquired by Zuffa in 2006. In December of 2008 the UFC absorbed several weight classes including the Light Heavyweight, Middleweight and Welterweight divisions. Today, the WEC focuses on three weight classes; Lightweight, Featherweight & Bantamweight with the Flyweight division currently vacant of fighters.   • Lightweight - 146-155 pounds (66-70 kg)
  • Featherweight - 136-145 pounds (61-66 kg)
  • Bantamweight - 126-135 pounds (57-61 kg)
  • Flyweight - 125 pounds and below (57 kg and below)
