Digg! MMA p4p Rankings

UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva will fight at UFC 112.

Pro Fighting Fans Editor-in-Chief and Director of MMA Content Scott Dryden once again provides his pound for pound ranking of the top fighters in the world of Mixed Martial Arts. As part of his column entitled The Triangle Choke, Dryden takes a look at the Top 10 MMA fighters in the world and ranks them pound for pound. While similar lists can be found online, our pound for pound rankings are some of the most accurate found anywhere online or in print as Dryden's experience around MMA and wealth of knowledge is unmatched. Also, look to ProFighting-fans.com for MMA news & coverage as well as additonal 2010 MMA rankings, and keep checking back each month for updates to our rankings of UFC weight classes, non-UFC fighters, WEC fighters and MMA pound for pound ranking lists.

MMA fans were treated to a spectacular November of MMA action seeing two UFC events and three Strikeforce events including the debut of Fedor Emelianenko in the Strikeforce cage. December saw BJ Penn dominate once again and in January Rashad Evans picked up yet another victory. Our pound for pound rankings are listed below and reveal the best fighters in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts regardless of weight class.

P4P #1

Fedor Emelianenko

Fedor Emelianenko, the greatest pound for pound fighter to ever step foot in the cage, will put his 31-1 record on the line in May when he faces Fabricio Werdum. The 13-4-1 Werdum is a brilliant jiu-jitsu practitioner but will not be able to fend off the pressure applied by the great Fedor.
Dream Matchup: Brock Lesnar

P4P #2

Anderson Silva

The Spider will re-enter the UFC’s Octagon atop the UFC 112 fight card against Demian Maia. Silva has been on the mend following an elbow injury but should be 100% for this title defense. He was scheduled to fight fellow Brazilian Vitor Belfort who had to withdraw due to a shoulder injury. He will instead face the antitheses of Belfort in jiu-jitsu sensation Maia. Nonetheless, Silva will extend his winning streak to twelve in impressive fashion.
Dream Matchup: Lyoto Machida at 205lbs

P4P #3

Georges St. Pierre

Rush will face The Outlaw Dan Hardy atop the UFC 111 fight card with the UFC Welterweight Championship title on the line. GSP hasn’t fought since July of 2009 where he defeated Thiago Alves at UFC 100. Although many believe Hardy doesn’t deserve a title shot he still brings one punch power to the cage. Despite his bravado, Hardy will provide little resistance to the greatest welterweight on the planet.
Dream Matchup: Anderson Silva at a catch weight

P4P #4

Lyoto Machida

The Dragon will defend his title once again versus the extremely dangerous Shogun Rua atop the UFC 113 fight card. The first bout, UFC 104, was very tactical as Shogun exposed vulnerabilities in Machida’s game never before seen. The May event should be no different as both fighters will be very prepared and technically sound. As in the first fight, look for Machida to gain the victory and maintain his undefeated record.
Dream Matchup: Rematch with Shogun Rua

P4P #5

Rashad Evans

Evans looked very good in his victory over Thiago Silva at UFC 108. Although Rashad has his eyes set on a rematch with Machida for the title, his first step will likely be against nemesis Rampage Jackson.

P4P #6

B.J. Penn

Penn was dominant once again in a very impressive victory over Diego Sanchez at UFC 107. The Prodigy will return to the cage at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi against an underrated Frankie Edgar. Penn will be victorious yet again and once again prove he is the greatest lightweight in the history of the sport.
Dream Matchup: Eddie Alvarez

P4P #7

Eddie Alvarez

The athletic Bellator FC Lightweight Champion is one of the best lightweights on the planet. He has accomplished a lot and will get a true test against Josh Neer in May at a catch weight of 160 lbs. Look for Alvarez to get the victory and continue his dominance in Bellator.
Dream Matchup: BJ Penn

P4P #8

Brock Lesnar

The UFC Heavyweight Champion is now back in training and it appears he will face the winner of the Carwin vs Mir Interim title fight from UFC 111. Rumors have that fight taking place atop the UFC 116 fight card, but either way Brock will have his hands full in his first fight since his victory over Mir at UFC 100 in July of 2009.
Dream Matchup: Fedor Emelianenko

P4P #9

Dan Henderson

Henderson, 25-7, will make his Strikeforce debut in April where he will compete for the Strikeforce Middleweight title against Jake Shields. Shields is an excellent fighter who likes to control the action on the ground. His style will not work against Henderson and Shields has no shot in the stand up. Dan Henderson will add another title to his impressive resume.
Dream Matchup: Anderson Silva rematch

P4P #10

Gegard Mousasi

The Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion will most likely face the boisterous King Mo Lawal in what should be a very entertaining bout on the Strikeforce April 17 fight card. Mousasi is a technical assassin but will have his hands full against the explosive Lawal.
Dream Matchup: Dan Henderson for the Strikeforce LHW title
