MMA Rankings > Women's MMA P4P Rankings - November 2009 Women's MMA Pound for Pound RankingsNovember 2009 - Women's MMA Pound for Pound Rankings
Female MMA seems to get more exciting everyday, the Carano-Cyborg bout brought such note-worthy ratings that spectators who once doubted the talent these ladies can bring are now taking a second look. So many things in the female MMA world are coming up- in a just a few weeks fans will be tuning in to the Ultimate Women's Challenge show to premier in December, to get an insiders look at the training these women endure on a daily basis. There's the ever-controversial Kim Couture battle with Kerry Vera on November 20th, scheduled just days after their husbands (Randy Couture and Brandon Vera) fight it out in UFC 105. Meanwhile Marloes Coenen just defeated Roxanne Modafferi on the Strikeforce Fedor vs. Rogers card on November 7th. Since female MMA is about to blow up, this is a great time to list some of the best around, which is quite a challenge considering they even have weight classes in Japan at 99lbs...my ten year old son weighs that?! So, when compiling my list I tried to locate the most accurate information available, not just listing women out of certain hype or popularity. Here's the top ten:
Tara LaRosa - her record is 17-1-0. Fighting out of Philadelphia, PA with a background in Muay Thai, Judo, Karate and Brazilian Jui-Jitsu. Tara has always been an athlete playing field hockey, basketball and softball even at the college level prior to committing to MMA.

Yuka Tsuji - her record is 22-1-0. Yuka is well-known for her wrestling abilities even claiming a Wrestling Freestyle Metal in Japan. She fights out of Osaka, Japan and has tore up the scene at the Smackgirl Championships.
Satoko Shinashi - her record is 29-2-2. She goes by "Princess" and typically submits her opponents with her armbars. Fighting out of Japan, Satoko won the DEEP Women's Flyweight Championship in 2008 and recently gave birth to a little boy over the Summer.
Roxanne Modafferi - her record is 13-4-0. Fighting out of Toyko, Japan she has a Kempo, Brazilian Jui-Jitsu and Muay Thai background. She began training as a teenager and is currently teaching English in Japan while preparing for her fight on November 7th.
Marloes Coenen - her record is 19-3-0. She's famous for her Dutch-style submission grappling. Marloes fights out of Holland and has been diligently training since she was a teenager.
Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos - her record is 8-1-0. With Brazilian Jui-Jitsu and Muay Thai experience "Cyborg" is an exciting competitor to watch. Fighting out of Brazil, she trains with her husband Evangelista and was once even a National Handball Champion. Cyborg Santos is best known as the Strikeforce Woemn's 145 pound Champion after beating Gina Carano at Strikeforce: Carano vs Cyborg in August 2009.
Sarah Kaufman - her record is 10-0-0. A former ballet dancer turned MMA fighter, Sarah became the Bantamweight Champion in the Hardcore Championship in 2007. She fights out of Victoria, Canada.
