The Ultimate Fighter 10: Heavyweights - Episode 4 Recap & ReviewRecap of Brendan Schaub vs Demico Rogers on TUF 10 Episode 4
Episode 4 leads off with a recap from last week’s Roy Nelson 2nd Round TKO victory over Kimbo Slice. As Episode 3 was the most watched in TUF history, UFC officials try and continue to ride the success of Kimbo and Nelson’s fight as long as they can. As the Marcus situation is diffused, the attention shifts to Team Rashad. Evans is obviously very happy about the position he is in and having control of the matchups. Rashad reminds his team to continue their success, he as a coach, must build off of their strengths.
Team Rashad brings in some of their remaining fighters to discuss the possible fights. Justin Wren is told that they would like him to fight his best friend in the house, Scott Junk. They want Brendan Schaub to fight Demico Rogers, leaving Matt Mitrione to fight Marcus Jones. As the coaches continue to discuss possibilities, Justin returns to the coaches den and reveals that he doesn’t want to fight his best friend. Rashad relates, stating that he understands coming from his situation with Keith Jardine. The next five minutes of the show is committed to Team Rashad’s Matt squealing to Team Rampage about a possible Wren vs. Junk matchup. Almost all of the fighters, minus Marcus, Kimbo and Abe, comment on the bonehead move made by Mitrione. Mitrione eventually apologizes to his teammates for the mistake then again tells Team Rashad coaches that he didn’t mean to cause uproar. Rashad likes the chances of Brendan utilizing his well-timed jab and his athleticism on his way to a knockout victory. Team Evans is not as pumped up about their fighter, but would like him to use his punches to get the fight to the ground where he can use his ground and pound or even set up a submission. As the fighters begin their pre-fight preparations, Brendan chooses to yell and scream in order to get ready for the bout, whereas Team Rampage coaches arrive late and are shown doing very little to get Demico mentally focused. It’s finally time for the fight to begin, as both fighters are sporting a clean 4-0 professional record. Early on Demico is successful in converting the takedown after taking a couple stiff jabs from Brendan. From the ground, Brendan does an adequate job of defending until Demico lands a couple of solid forearms to the face of Brendan. As Demico yields to take a breath, Brendan shakes him off and takes dominant position himself. It isn’t long after that, that Brendan swings over into an anaconda choke, which very rarely is used in order to finish a fight.
Rampage is not taking the loss well again. He is shown walking off leaving his fighter in the cage with no support. Rashad offers his two cents for Demico, who isn’t shown receiving any feedback from his team until arriving back at the dressing room. Rampage scolds his assistant coaches for over-coaching Demico, believing that he is “too green” to be coached at that level. Brendan is shown confessing to the camera that he wishes that he was more convincing in his victory, but will take it nonetheless. Rashad tells his team to keep the train rolling. With a 4-0 record, it looks as if Team Rashad has a legitimate chance of making this competition a clean sweep. Team Rampage must pick it up, get a win, and turn the tide and control of match-making duties over to his team.
