The Ultimate Fighter 10: Heavyweights - Episode 8 Recap & ReviewRecap of Marcus Jones vs Michael Wessel on TUF 10 Episode 8
A highlight recap of Mitrione vs. Junk is used as a lead-in for the newest edition of The Ultimate Fighter season 10: heavyweights. While both fighters were complimentary of each other, Rampage was disgusted, and the training room door paid for it. Rampage laid into the door, using punches, kicks, and an old-fashioned head-butt to destroy it. Both Dana White and Rashad made light of the door-bashing episode. Rashad claims that “if you give nothing, you get nothing.” After the fact, Rampage compares it to being a child and throwing a temper tantrum. Back at the “TUF” camp, Junk is nursing his battle wounds and house-clown, Wes Sims, decided to throw a victorious Matt a “party.” The party consisted of James opening his bedroom door and spraying him with silly string. After Matt told him that his head hurt, Wes found some compassion and quit “partying.” At Team Rampage’s training session, Rampage gave Marcus Jones some one-on-one time before sending him into the octagon against Mike Wessel in the last opening round fight. ‘Page also did his best impersonation of a coach by trying to pump him up in pre-fight hype. While Marcus looks focused, Rampage warns all doors in the training center to “look out.” A day before one of his biggest fights of his life, Marcus keeps his down-to-earth persona in check after a visit from a spider. Justin Wren stepped in to save Marcus from a heart attack by killing the insect. Marcus even admitted although he is a big man, he has a little case of arachnophobia.
Mike W. opens up in his pre-fight interview about constant worrying about his cancer-stricken wife. When asked about his opponent, Mike is concerned with his size the most. Rashad wants Mike to keep the fight standing and close in proximity so he can use punches to wear him down. When Rashad questions Mike about his confidence, he remains solid as a rock. Marcus is quick to pronounce his love for MMA when it’s time for his pre-fight interview. Although playing professional football for several years, he never claimed to be a student of the game, like he is with MMA. His coach Rampage, isn’t sure about his heart, but does agree that he is eager to learn and accept criticism.
At the weigh-ins, Rampage got Darrill, aka “Titties” wound up once again. Teammates decide to weigh-in on a more important factor, believing that size will play a huge factor. Mike will have the experience edge, especially on the big stage as a UFC veteran. It’s finally fight time, and as the two fighters take their spot inside the octagon, the size difference is evident. Mike lands first, hitting on 2 or 3 inside punches before Marcus knows what is going on. Mike then tries to take the fight to the ground, but gets turned and lands on the bottom of 6’6” Marcus. After peppering the head of Wessel, his attention turns to a submission attempt. Mike gets turned into Marcus’ guard but makes a major rookie mistake and Marcus makes him pay. Marcus turns a mistake into a fight-ending armbar in a little over a minute of fight time. Marcus had everyone believing that he was for real. Rashad, Rampage and Dana all were singing his praises after his opening round submission victory.
Rashad gives Rampage some of his own treatment by asking his fighters to come and train with his team. Although none of the fighters stepped up, the question stirred the pot in the long-lasting Rashad vs. Rampage war of worlds. Let’s just hope that this fight will happen someday in the near future.
