This week’s episodeof The Ultimate Fighter 10 began with a quick recap of last Wednesday’s quarterfinal bout that saw Roy Nelson advance to the semi’s, which will be seen next week on TUF 10’s final episode prior to the December 5 th finale.

Team Rashad is in the training room where Coach Evans is excited about his team’s chemistry. Shortly into their practice Matt Mitrione approaches his coach to notify him about his doctor’s visit. Matt’s explanation was that he had some minor swelling around the brain which led to painful headaches and caused him to move much slower than usual. Team Rashad’s coaches are not convinced, even though Matt tells him that he will fight, and explain to Matt that “swelling around the brain” is more serious than headaches. The decision on whether to keep Matt in the rotation is not solved and put on the back-burner for now.

The confusion of whether Matt is being genuine is bothering competitors from both teams. Fighters from both teams comment about if they think Matt wants to be a “real fighter” or not. It also angers others that he has this opportunity which thousands of others would love to have.

At Team Rampage’s training session, Coach ‘Page informs his team that his information tells him that Mitrione will indeed fight in his quarterfinal bout against James McSweeney. Kimbo Slice, who has a slight knee injury, is told to remain on “standby.” They also try and prepare him for James targeting his bad knee in case he does get his second chance opportunity.

As for today’s featured bout, former NFL player, Brendan Schaub, explains that he is not worried or concerned about Jon (Madsen) stand-up skills. Going into further detail, Brendan thinks that Jon is a one-dimension wrestler who only has takedowns for offense.

After a visit from the doctor, Kimbo finds out that he has some cartilage deteriorating in his knee. And while there are some temporary solutions to this ailment, it looks as if this problem will bother Slice for the remainder of his fight career.

The coach’s challenge is also on tonight’s episode. “Beach Volleyball” is the theme and Dana’s choice for Rampage and Rashad, a sport that neither excels at. Assistant coach Tiki Ghosn will be joining Rampage, and assistant Mike Van Arsdale will be a teammate to Rashad. The pot stands at $10,000 for the winning coach and $1,500 for each fighter on the winning team.

With some big-time help from Tiki, Team Rampage takes the first game by a score of 15-8. Team Rashad surprises all with a 15-10 victory in the second game. After battling to a 13-13 standstill in game 3, Team Rashad steals the last two points to make it a 15-13 victory and takes the match 2 games to 1.

TUF 10 Apparel Rampage Jackson storms off for a moment in typical temper tantrum fashion, however he does return and shakes all Team Evans’ hands. Before the two teams depart the Palms, Rashad and Rampage trade verbal jabs again, this time with money as the catalyst.

Back at the house, Kimbo continues to deal with his bad knee. He chooses to take as ice bath to try and control the swelling on his knee. As a Miami native, Kimbo states that he despises the cold weather and gets relief after a trip to the hot tub.

As the Team Rashad gets back to practice, Brendan is somewhat annoyed that his coach is working drills with Jon after saying that he wasn’t going to choose sides. Also at practice, Rashad Evans tries to get to the bottom of Matt’s dilemma. Rashad questions Matt and asks if he believes that he is pressured into fighting. Matt says that is kind of the case, and then in the confessional states that he is tired of all the house drama.

Dana shows up shortly after Rashad and Matt’s powwow and has the same reservations about his desire. While Dana doesn’t call out anyone in particular, Matt feels that his traditional “do you want to be a fighter” speech is directed at him. The problem continues to go unresolved as the fighters tip the scales for their bout.

At the Brendan vs. Jon weigh-in, Brendan tipped the scales at 239 lbs. while Jon at 247 lbs. Brendan has the edge with size, he easily is taller than Jon and his reach is longer. Jon, with his compact body-style, can win this fight if he is smart and takes it to the ground.

Finally, its fight time and Dana introduces both fighters. Brendan at 4-0 takes center cage against 1-0 Jon with no customary touch of gloves. Jon gets the action started by a hard slam of Brendan to the mat. After a referee reset and a couple of knees by Brendan, Jon slams him to the mat for a second time. Although Brendan stayed busy from the bottom, Jon owned the round on the scorecards.

The second gets started with Brendan showing his jab and then really gets busy with knees to the body. After a break, Brendan stalks Jon and forces him into the corner where he drops his opponent with a hard right. Before he can hurt Jon anymore, the referee steps in and saves anymore damage.

As far as reactions go; Team Evans coach Rashad believed that Brendan was too eager to use the fence for help and should have deducted a point. Other than that, Rashad was still impressed with his 2nd round TKO.

Next week’s final episode has some highlights as a preview. Marcus and Matt look to be at each other’s throats. We will also find out if Kimbo returns or Matt fights when both of the remaining quarterfinal bouts are executed.
