The Ultimate Fighter 11: Episode 8 - “Closed Mouth Don’t Get Fed” RecapRecap of Episode 8 of the TUF 11 fights between Kris McCray vs Kyacey Uscola and Court McGee vs James Hammortree
Tonight’s episode marks the beginning of the second round of the Ultimate Fighter tournament. There will be two fights tonight, the already announced wild card fight between Kris McCray and Kyacey Uscola, and the yet to be announced first fight of the quarterfinals. It should be a good night, so sit back, relax, and turn up the volume on your computer. Kyacey finds out his son was just born and calls his wife with Tito’s cell phone. His name is Charles Champ Uscola and Kyacey says everything he’s doing right now is for Charles Champ, and in his honor, he plans to put an ass kicking on McCray. McCray credits Kyacey for his experience and solid wrestling and considers himself an underdog coming into the fight. Kyacey compliments McCray’s toughness, saying he will keep coming no matter what, but Kyacey expects his hand to be raised at the end of the night. Tito decides to stay on the bench for the fight considering that both fighters are Team Punishment. Tito says he will keep quiet and let the better man win. Kyacey comes to the Octagon first, followed by McCray. McCray says it’s going to be crazy in the cage, fireworks.
TUF 11 Wildcard Fight: Kris McCray vs. Kyacey Uscola
McCray says the “Savage” is still in embryo stage, but the growth has begun. Kyacey is disappointed about losing, and says even though he had a lot on his mind with his wife just giving birth, it’s no excuse. Dana sits down with Tito and Chuck to determine the matchup for the quarterfinals. Dana asks who they think the four best guys are and Chuck can’t give him an answer. Tito says, Kyle, Brad, Ring and Yager are the best four fighters left. Dana agrees with him. Tito wants to see Nick Ring fight Court McGee fight again, since Dana and Chuck think it should have gone to a third round. They begin arguing after Dana gives into Tito’s demands of a rematch between Ring and McGee. Chuck gets pissed that Dana let’s Tito get what he want, and a hissy fit ensues. Dana leaves it at that, Chuck and Tito eventually leave, and Dana says he will let them know what he comes up with. Dana enters the gym to make the quarterfinal fight announcements and tells the fighters he had to make the final decision on the fights because their coaches couldn’t stop arguing. The first fight is Nick Ring vs. Court McGee. Tito says for once Dana agreed with him, which put a smile on his face. Chuck says he doesn’t mind, he just doesn’t want Tito to feel like he won something. The second fight is Kyle Nokevs. Kris McCray The third fight is Brad Tavares vs. Seth Baczynski. And the fourth and final fight is Jamie Yager vs. Josh Bryant. Tito feels very positive about the matchups and he hopes to have four guys in the semis. Chuck thinks they have a shot at winning all four of the fights, and hopes if it happens that Tito can be sent home. Forrest Griffin pops in on the Ultimate Fighter household in a Boondock Saints like trench coat. He comes barring gifts, more specifically, UFC Undisputed 2010 the video game. It’s an obvious commercial, with the fighters talking about how good the game is, but I’m sure they had fun playing it. The highlight of comes when Forrest, playing as himself, gets knocked out by Hammortree, playing as Tito Ortiz. Ring gets his MRI done and speaks with the doctor. The doctor tells him that he re-tore his ACL and may need a third reconstructive surgery. Nick says it’s really hard to have to keep picking yourself up and dusting yourself off. Nick has to choose between continuing to fight with his damaged leg and possibly causing permanent damage, or pulling out of the tournament and living to fight another day. Dana White comes into the house and sits down with Nick Ring to talk about his ACL. Dana says he talked with the doctor and the doctor said he could fight. Nick says he doesn’t think it’s smart, even though he may be the favorite to win the tournament, to keep fighting. Dana says ok, but he just wanted to make sure that Nick didn’t want to fight for sure. Nick says he feels as though he’s losing a huge opportunity, but when your body tells you to stop, you should. Dana tells the fellow fighters about Nick, but now another fighter who was previously eliminated has to be brought back in. Henle is excited and thinks he’s going to get the chance, since everyone’s hurt. As Dana leaves the house, past a sign in the house which reads, “Do you want to be a f**king fighter?” Hammortree jumps off the couch and runs outside to tell Dana he wants the fight. Dana comes back into the house and let’s the fighters know that Hammortree is the fighter who will be replacing Ring against McGee. Henle is visibly upset about not getting the fight, and goes up to Dana asking if there’s anyway he can get the fight, but Dana tells him he’ll have to wait to see if another fighter ends up dropping out. Court McGee and James Hammortree weigh-in. Liddell thinks McGee will be trouble for Hammortree. Tito thinks it will be an exciting fight, with both fighters excelling in the same areas. Hammortree thinks Court is one of the most well-rounded and tough guys, but with that said, feels as though he can beat one of the most well-rounded and tough guys. McGee says the change of opponent alters his gameplan a little, but he plans to use a little technique and beat him. Hammortree wants to stay standing with McGee and let his hands go this fight. McGee enters the Octagon first. He says he signed up to hurt him, and he’s going to try and hurt Hammortree this fight. Hammortree enters next and is grateful for getting a second chance and wants to make Dana happy for letting him back in.
TUF 11 Quarterfinals: Court McGee vs. James Hammortree
Hammortree says that Tito thought going for the takedown in the second round and scoring some points would be best. But it backfired. Tito tells him it was a little mistake, and that it’s alright. Tito says that Hammortree’s main weakness was his inexperience and he got caught. Dana says Court McGee impresses him more every time and considers him the dark horse in the tournament. Court does the “Courtpanzee,” an odd monkey dance, and the show ends. On the next episode of the Ultimate Fighter,Team Ortiz gets hit with more shocking news, but this time it involves Tito Ortiz. Then two quarterfinal fights take place, as Kyle Noke fights Kris McCray and Brad Tavares versus Seth Baczynski. And top it all off, a controversial ending to one of the fights leads to a potential brawl between the coaches of Team Liddell and Team Ortiz. There will be 2 fights next week, 3 if you include the potential brawl, so if you don’t get Spike, can’t find a suitable website that streams it, or just like reading recaps of shows you’ve already watched, check back next Thursday for episode 9’s recapitulation.
