The Ultimate Fighter 11: Episode 10 - “Shocked and Awed” Recap

Recap of Episode 10 of the TUF 11 fight between Jamie Yager and Josh Bryant

Last week’s show ended with Tito’s future on the show hanging in the balance, so will tonight make the first time we see Rich Franklin on The Ultimate Fighter? Turn up the volume on your computer. We’re about to find out.

The show kicks off with Chuck Liddell calling Tito Ortiz a “f**king P***y” and throwing a tantrum.

Chuck says he didn’t want to do the show with Tito and that the only reward was that he got to punch Tito in the face when it was over.

Dana says it’s the first time ever a coach has backed out of a fight during the show. He says he received a text from Tito saying he couldn’t fight because he needed neck surgery.

Chuck goes back to the locker room and tells his team that Tito pulled out what a p***y he is.

Tito sits in his locker room alone, looking sad. He says that Chuck doesn’t understand how serious his injury is, and that this is just another obstacle he must overcome.

Yager and Bryant weigh-in on weight.

Chuck said he wants Bryant to close the distance and stay inside.

Tito is confident in Yager and believes Yager can get a stoppage in the first round.

Kyacey says Yager has talent and speed, but there’s a lot more to fighting than just talent and speed.

Yager feels confident coming into the fight. He says Bryant is a shorter guy who will try and get inside and take him down. He says this kind of fight is the fight he’s been preparing for this whole stint on the Ultimate Fighter.

Bryant says he isn’t looking past Yager and will try to take advantage of his strengths.

Yager says you can’t condition your chin, when Bryant feels one of his punches or kicks he’s done. Yager has a lot of family and friends rooting for him, so if he makes a big showing here on the show it would be awesome for him back home.

Bryant says he hates to lose, he’s ultra competitive. And that being short is a benefit to him because he likes to get inside and throw punches from up close.

Bryant comes to the Octagon first and says he hopes Yager isn’t underestimating him.

Yager comes next and says he hopes Bryant doesn’t try to stand and bang with him because he will knock him out.

Quarterfinals Fight #4: Jamie Yager vs. Josh Bryant

Jamie Yager vs. Josh Bryant - Round 1

We get a Chandella booty shot and the fight starts.

The fighters touch gloves.

They feel each other out for a bit, then exchange punches. Nothing significant lands. Bryant clips Yager with a nice right hook, and runs after him, solidifying a clinch against the cage.

Fighting with his back to the cage, Yager lands a nice knee. He lands another knee and break free form the clinch. They both dance around one another for a bit, and then Yager lands a nice kick to the body.

Yager accidently kicks Brant in the nuts, and the fight comes to a pause. Bryant says he’s alright and the fight resumes.

Yager continues to score with leg kicks as the two fighters stand in front of one another. Yager throws a front kick that lands on Bryant’s shoulder. Bryant drives him forward looking for a takedown, but can’t get anything.

They circle each other, staying at Yager’s distance, Bryant unable to get inside.

With 20 seconds left, Bryant throws a left and a right cross that drops Yager. Brant jumps into Yager’s guard to try and finish the fight, but Yager is able to ride out the round.

I had the round 10-9 for Yager until Bryant dropped Yager in the last 20 seconds. With that I give call the round a draw, 10-10.

Jamie Yager vs. Josh Bryant - Round 2

We get another Chandella booty shot.

Bryant says that Yager’s head movement is throwing him off.

Tito tells Yager to step to his right.

They touch gloves.

Yager’s pressing the action, trying to land kicks and punches. Bryant kicks him in the cup and the action stops.

The fight resumes shortly after and they return to the center of the Octagon. Bryant clips Yager with a nice right hand, Yager gets sloppy throwing jumping knees, and Bryant gets the takedown.

Brant has side-mount, but Yager is able to get back to his feet and take Bryant down. After landing some blows to the side of Bryant’s head, Bryant rises to his feet.

Yager front kicks Bryant in the face, and then throws a superman punch that hits mostly gloves. Yager lands a nice head kick, but Bryant eats it up. They stand still, trading shots from all angles, head punches, kicks to the body, knees to the head, finally they clinch against the cage.

They separate, and Yager falls to the mat trying to throw a kick. Bryant hops into side-mount and grinds his elbow across Yager’s forehead, trying to draw blood.

Bryant works for a kimura, then gives up on it and lands solid punches to Yager’s face.

Yager tries to get up, but is trapped. The round ends with Bryant pounding out Yager.

I score the round 10-9 Bryant.

Tito comes into the Octagon saying to himself that Yager “f**king quit.”

Dana White comes in and announces that the judges have called the fight a draw. We’re going to Round 3.

Tito tells Yager to not f**king quit. Yager is exhausted on his stool. Tito tells him he needs to suck it up and show him how big his heart is.

Stave Mazzagatti comes over to the corner and asks Yager if he’s ready to go. As he countsdown to the end of the round, and Tito begs Yager to say yes!, Yager says nothing and Mazzagatti calls the fight off.

Josh Bryant wins TKO in Round 2.

Chuck starts screaming, “Just like Tito!”

Dana says it’s one thing to get hit by punches and have the fight stopped, and another to quit yourself. He tells Chuck he doubted his picks in the beginning of the show, but now he can’t believe how right he was.

Tito starts running around the locker room calling Yager a “p*ss.” He says Yager f**king quit.

The Ultimate Fighter logo Yager says he’s sorry.

Tito says he let himself down, he let Tito down, and he let his coaches down.

Yager says he hopes he didn’t let anybody down. He feels like he let people down.

Tito says if you ain’t got no heart, you don’t belong in this sport at all.

Dana comes into Team Ortiz’s locker room and pulls out Tito.

He sits down and talks with Tito, telling him he is sending him to LA to see Dana’s own doctor for a second opinion. He says the way this is going to work now is, tomorrow is Tito’s last day.

Tito says why is that?

Dana says cause you’re going to go see the doctor and that’s it for the show. They have another fighter for Chuck.

Tito seems stunned, and says he still has another guy fighting in the show.

Tito says he’s never been fired in anything his whole life and it’s really hard for him to swallow.

Dana says Tito didn’t have much of a reaction.

Tito says it’s very challenging. He had everything taken away from him in a blink of an eye. He says his health is not worth sacrificing. He says he’ll be back.

Dana says if Tito wasn’t a 100%, he shouldn’t have come on the show.

Tito’s team watches from the van as Tito exits the gym, they can tell he’s sad and one of the fighters says he wants to go and give Tito a hug. Kyacey says it looks like Tito got fired or something.

Dana says after he told Tito, he gave him time to go and talk to his team, but he didn’t.

The fighters get out of the van and go back to the locker room.

Dana goes to the locker room and tells them that Tito is gone.

The fighters are surprised that Tito left and doesn’t say goodbye.

Dana tells McCray that he will have good coaching and not to worry.

The fighters are shocked that Tito didn’t say anything to them, saying that doesn’t seem like the Tito they’ve known for the last month and a half. They seem upset with the decision to fire Tito and are bummed out to see him gone like that.

Seth says despite how Chuck felt about Tito, Team Ortiz liked Tito and still consider him their coach.

Yager comes back from the hospital, relatively healthy. The fighters tell Yager that Tito got sent home.

Yager says he suffered only slight muscle damage. McCray tells him everyone is pissed he didn’t come out for the third round.

McCray says to Yager’s defense, he doesn’t think he’s a quitter.

Yager says that those who have doubts about his work ethic or fighting abilities bring it.

Tito visits the TUF house, much to the delight of his team.

Tito tells the fighters the deal and says for once in his life he’s getting fired. He says he thought this was about the fighters on the show, not him and Chuck. He says he still wants to kick Chuck’s teeth in, but his health is more important. It’s hard for him to be pulled away from something he’s invested so much heart into, but it’s done.

Tito says he feels bad for McCray because he doesn’t have the coach who got him there.

Tito says what this game is about is learning and he hopes they’ve learned something.

The fighters say Tito is their boy, and regardless of who replaces him, Tito is their coach.

Tito wishes McCray luck and tells him to take the show home for Team Ortiz.

They return to the gym for the semifinal fight announcements.

Dana comes out with a sheet of paper and says the first fight is going to be –

Brad Tarvares vs. Court McGee.

Dana says that Court vs. Brad is a tough fight.

Tarvares says he plans to go in there and bang.

Making the second fight –

Kris McCray vs. Josh Bryant.

Bryant says fighting McCray twice doesn’t bother him. He plans to beat him twice.

McCray says when he first fought Bryant, he had a lot of holes, but he’s since fixed them.

We get a shot of Rich Franklin walking up to the TUF gym and then a highlight package.

Dana introduces Rich Franklin to the fighters.

Franklin says Dana called him, telling him Tito got hurt, and Franklin said he’d take the fight.

Dana says he overcompensated a bit, and has brought in a special set of assistant coaches. The coaches open the door to the gym and go to walk in as the screen fades to black.

On the next episode of the Ultimate Fighter, we find out which former UFC champion Dana handpicked to be an assistant coach. Then, Yager’s antics in the house finally go to too far, as Kyacey challenges him to a fight in the house. And finally, both semifinal fights take place, Brad Tarvares vs. Court McGee, and Kris McCray vs. Josh Bryant, to determine who will be fighting in in the Finale on June 19.

So if you don’t get Spike, can’t find a suitable website that streams it, or just like reading recaps of shows you’ve already watched, check back next Thursday for episode 10’s recapitulation.
