TUF 14 #10 Recap: Good Night, Nurse
Did you ever have a dislike for a football player, basketball player or hockey player for reasons that seemed a little shallow to the outside world? Enter John Dodson. In spite of his impressive performance against Johnny Bedford, that won him a spot in TUF 14 Finale, his laugh, back flips and trying-too-hard self promo remind me of the awkward cousin you never want to visit. Ever. The fight went as predicted, with Dodson’s speed allowing him to avoid take downs from an otherwise slightly superior wrestler with longer reach. It was clear from the beginning that Dodson had heavier, more accurate hands, and that Bedford’s belief that Dodson couldn’t KO him was ill informed. The KO sent Bedford back to Ohio. Speed Kills. Dodson will now face TJ Dillashaw in the bantamweight Finale, and I predict a win for Dillashaw . Three months have passed since the end of the regular show, and TJ will be the one to benefit from the time used to improve the arsenal, an effect of a more reflective gene. Plus, I think his wrestling will have more effect on his game plan than did Bedford’s.
Diego Brandao dispatched Bryan Caraway in similar fashion, by displaying superior, heavier hands and repeating what he had done in previous fights, despite beginning cautiously. Caraway lasted longer than he had a right to, considering the beating he was taking. Eventually, though, it was good night, nurse. Brandao is some serious shit in the octagon, and could enter the UFC without winning the Finale, which he might not. Bermudez’s stellar applied wresting could be the fly in Brandao’s ointment, though I seriously doubt it. Once again, we will have to see the training each fighter has put in during the last three months, see who will solve the Rubik’s Cube. Mayhem Miller will be fighting Bisping during the Finale, which is a first for the coaches: usually they headline a subsequent card. I like Mayhem, respect his self-promotion, enjoy his writing and think he’s great for the sport, even if he has a childish streak running through him like rot in wood. But he will not win this fight. He won’t be able to take down The Count, and won’t be able to withstand the barrage the Brit will throw his way. Speed will kill. Bisping by TKO late in round 2. TUF season 14 was arguably the best season for fights. $25,000 dollars will be awarded to submission, KO and best fight of TUF 14. I have trouble remembering what I had for breakfast, or even if I ate it at all, so I’d have to go through copious amounts of notes to turn in my vote. There are a lot of finishes and fights to qualify. Brandao should win best KO for two of his fights. As I recall, however, the fights to get into the house were some of the best. We’ll just have to see how it all will tally. As for Mayhem? Enjoy the walk into the UFC octagon, my friend. It may be one of your last.
